URGENT NOTICE FOR FLAT TENANTS

Concerning Council Sheds at Mainstone Close

As you may be aware, due to recent fire damage to some of the sheds, the Council have sealed all the sheds and it's come to my attention this week as a concerned flat tenant after making enquiries, that the Council are planning to demolish our sheds, rather than repair them and make them more secure from vandalism.

The Council have informed me they are planning to consult with tenants with door to door visits next Tuesday to allow tenants to have their say over whether the sheds should be demolished. I suspect this is merely a “going through the motions” procedure, and unless enough tenants voice opposition to losing their sheds, they will just go ahead and demolish them.

Therefore, if you value the use of your shed and wish to continue using it, please voice your opinion to the Council when they call on Tuesday. If you're not in when they call, you can telephone the Council on 01527 534 188 and ask for Karen who is the local tenancy officer carrying out the tenants consultation. She is keen to hear from tenants who wish to retain the use of their sheds.

Please note it has been indicated by Karen that lease holders who own their flats may have additional rights over the sheds, so I would strongly urge lease owners to voice opposition to their sheds being demolished if you wish to retain yours as part of your lease.

Voice your opposition to losing your shed by signing this petition online. If we receive signatures from more than half the 16 flat tenants with sheds, the Council will be unlikely to knock the sheds down.
