Super Smash Bros for the 3DS and Wii-U is in development and is still in the stages of selecting characters from franchises owned or associated with Nintendo, many people want their favorite characters in, and one of the most mentioned is the half genie, belly dancing girl, Shantae! Her debut was in the titular game, Shantae for the Gameboy Color, released late in the handheld's life cycle on June 2nd, 2002, developed by WayForward Technologies. For a while, it was largely ignored, but with the advent of the internet and the escalating interest in old games, Shantae was found to be a rare gem, with unique gameplay, style and personality no other franchise could compare with. Some used copies can go up to $800 USD! Because it was so sought after, it was released on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console July 18th of 2013. It had a successful sequel, Shantae: Risky's Revenge! As well as a new, promising game entitled Shantae and the Pirate's Curse. In the original game, she has access to dances that allowed her to turn into various animals, each with their own ability and attack. She could use her hair as a whip and moves could be purchased to make her a deadlier combatant. The moves almost form a prototype moveset, making her inherently fitting within the Super Smash Bros. family. Including Shantae would have the same effect as Pit of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, it would add a unique, somewhat bscure character that players would be introduced too, generating interest in the Shantae games and likewise generating new players who are fans of Shantae. More female protagonists would also be welcome in the hit crossover fighter.
