Name: Anonymous on Mar 16, 2009Comments: PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE THE COALITION OF UNIFORMED SERVICES OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK FOR FAIR AND ETHICAL TREATMENT Active as well as retired members of the emergency services of The City of New York are outraged at the Bloomberg administrations attempt to have a United States Federal judge dismiss all claims of illness and injury sustained from exposure to the rescue and recovery efforts of The World Trade Center terrorist attacks. As reported in Sundays New York Post, the City is arguing the "uniformed" personnel are not entitled to workplace protection under state labor laws. We find this claim to be at the very least callous, and a direct attempt to question the validity of our current illnesses. During the fall of 2001 FDNY firefighters, NYPD and Port Authority police officers and emergency medical technicians responded valiantly and without regard for our personal safety to rescue and recover as many of our fellow citizens and brother firefighters and police officers as humanly possible. Today that very dangerous and toxic work has led thousands of us to become ill with life threatening illnesses. Today the City of New York refuses to accept responsibility for our ailments. We implore Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein to allow us our right to be heard in court. We have sat by and watched the continued attack against our uniformed services by the Bloomberg administration. We are aware that this is another attempt by Mayor Bloomberg to hold our cases in further litigation until such a day that we are not around to litigate further. WHO: THE COALITION OF UNIFORMED SERVICES OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK FOR FAIR AND ETHICAL TREATMENT ALONG WITH ATTORNEY NORMAN SIEGEL WHERE: STEPS OF New York CITY HALL WHEN: THURSDAY MARCH 19, 2009 12 NOOFlag
