As a student at any, 2-year institution or 4-year university, we should all be aware of the involvement of the Student Government Association (SGA). The SGA is an organization that represents the voice of the student body and is a liaison between faculty and students. During April 19-23, 2010, the SGA elections were taking place. Prior to and during this time period the candidates were notified not to campaign or stand within 5ft of the polls. Zedan Booboo and Maryam Ishak, two of the candidates, violated these rules. There were also emails sent out to several students slandering the other candidates running for the same position as them. If they used deceitful and manipulative tactics to win, what is to stop them from misusing and abusing their power while in office? Upon signing this petition you are agreeing that you disagree with the decision to elect these students into office and to a fair and just election process, free of unscrupulous and libelous campaigning. You are also requesting the immediate suspension of the election results, with a new election to take place within 30 days of the start of the fall 2010 semester. If a new election cannot take place, we request the immediate forfeiture and suspension of both parties from their SGA positions, including all applicable voting rights, powers, authority, and salaries.
