The petition
Now is the time we forever change the San Francisco Zoo.
City officials must act now to ensure that future generations can visit a zoo that has a focus on animal welfare.
I am a California Resident and I support The Rescue Plan for The San Francisco Zoo.
I agree with the following:
-Management at San Francisco Zoo must change. No more business as usually.
-All existing animals should be properly cared for before new animals are acquired or new projects are undertaken.
-Every effort should be made to enhance each animal's quality of life through environmental and behavioral enrichment programs.
-Ensure enclosures are designed to maximize space for the animals and meeting the specific needs of each species.
-Exhibit enclosures should depict naturalistic landscapes with a focus on the animals.
-Any new animals should be acquired from the pool of rescued exotic, wildlife or domestic sources.
-Animals should be provided a home for life. No animal shall be released, sold, transported, traded, or euthanized unless such action is determined to be in the best interest of the animal.
-Animals shall not be bred solely for the purpose of gaining publicity or attracting visitors. The San Francisco Zoo’s Species Survival Program should be reviewed.
-City officials should develop and maintain an active, independent Zoo Welfare Commission to provide support, guidance, and oversight for management and zoo personnel.
