Having spent 22 years in the military, I find this to not only be a travesty, but a complete miscarriage of justice. SFC Martland should be commended for his actions, not forced out of the military. What has happened to our morals and common sense?
It is absolutely disgusting that this brave soldiers is being punished for doing what any decent man would have done under similar circumstances. How can you expect to maintain any sort of positive morale in our armed forces under such circumstances.
This gentleman not served our country (U.S.A.) honorably but also Afghanistan. It is a disgrace and embarrassment that our country is now trying to punish him for shoving a child rapist. If anything he deserves a medal for not killing the perpetrator!
U.S. Army, SSG(Ret). This man upheld the very reason most of us join the military, to protect those who cannot protect themselves. Give this man a letter of recommendation and tell him to drive on. He should NOT be punished for doing what is right.
As a former member of the Navy, a doctor, a woman, and the mother of a son....the actions taken against Sgt. Maitland are despicable. He should be returned to active duty with a promotion and his record expunged of any and all derogatory references.
I am a proud American veteran as was my father who served in WW2. Please do the right thing and let this proud hero serve as he wishes

I only wish I personally knew this outstanding example of a Soldier and American. After following this story, it saddens me to see that the Army is looking to let this man go after his impeccable service record clearly shows he is a model Soldier.
