Comments: Two of the faculty members who were laid off had an incredible impact (positive) on my experience at the art institute. The only reason I would ever recommend students attending the art institute is because of the incredible faculty there. There is really no other reason to attend. The fact that they are firing some of THE best faculty, the most dedicated to students, is startling. There is no reason to go to SFAI if these faculty members are not a part of the institution.

Comments: This is not only a blow to very committed faculty that have supported numerous students throughout their many years of teaching, but it is an affront to the idea of academic freedom--the ability of faculty to have different ideas and to serve on a union without the fear of retaliation. In my time at SFAI I valued the discussion around the political value of art and its role towards progressively contributing to society. This single action has made me question that anyone in the administration meant what they said when they participated in these discussions.

Comments: MY alma mater has been transformed into a place so unfamiliar, so unfriendly, so anti-art, I cannot recommend it as place of study.

Comments: I need, I feel, to display my name as anonymous as I feel that as a student with higher than usual loan needs that I am being singled out unfairly. I need to keep a low profile. You need not add my comments to the petition.

Comments: These individuals are some of the finest thinkers and educators I have had the honor of meeting and working with and it is devastating that the school is not doing everything they can to keep them at our institution. These people are the reason students stay at the school, how we learn to expand our minds and develop in fully realized artists.

Comments: I am completely in the debt of teachers like Stephanie Ellis and Jon Lang - I have them to thank for the entirely enriching experience I had at SFAI and their contributions to my education in art and critical theory continue to inform the way I see the world and evolve as an artist, designer, and person.
