Mainly happening to women, sexual assault is a crime in the military that seems to be becoming more and more common. In all the recorded congressional meetings I have viewed, leaders have continued to say that progress is underway and they are in the middle of beginning a new program to hopefully prevent the heinous crime. Although the average percentage of sexual assault in the military is still not at the idealistic goal of zero, it isn't even going down, it is indeed rising. The punishment being given to the perpetrator in these crimes is little to none in most cases. Whether that is due to the fact that most of these victims are scared of loosing their ranks because the case tends to somehow end up charging the woman for "being in the wrong place at the wrong time". Or the higher commanders not going through proper protocol of investigation into crimes like these in hopes to spare their reputation on their base. I think that all perpetrators in these cases should be court marshaled or sentenced to article 15 UCMJ punishments at least, an out side, independent court shall take the case with female officers mainly investigating and questioning the victims and lastly I want the women in our military to not have to be afraid in joining a supposedly professional and equally run military in the end.
