Comments: This must stop. I am now 37, but just started counseling last year to come to grips with everything. I was abused by my step-father, brother and 3 step-brothers. I am in the middle of a civil suit against my step-father but must rely on the Discovery Rule. It is ridiculous to say someone "should've" understood they were damaged! Most can't tell the truth for decades. My mother did nothing when I told her at age 19 and she IS STILL WITH HIM EVEN THOUGH HE ADMITTED TO THE ABUSE back then and also admits to it in court papers. So sick I can't put him in jail either. Alaska HAS abolished the SOL for both criminal (1994) and civil (2001) law suits, but neither are retroactive. Please get the monsters OFF the streets, in jail, and protect our children.

I have a 7 year old son that I'm keeping away from my mother because she is till with this man. Laws should be changed. He is still a sex addic & will never be fully cured.

Comments: I was abused as a child and, even though it wasn't by a priest, I still feel the effects of it everyday. It pains me that because I did not speak out as a child, I cannot convict my father for his crimes.

Comments: I fixing to go in the psych ward because I can't stop thinking about suicide and I have to be someplace safe til they stop. For thirty years, I have suicidal ruminations that last hours to days. It is a heavy burden. I was robbed of a wife, a career, and peace of mind. I can't work and live off public assistance. Is there a direct link. I intuite that there is one and I think that most psychiatrists would agree. I was robbed of my life.

Comments: I too am a survivor and it's very frustrating to know that there is nothing I can do to hold these scum accountable for what they did to me. You can't raise red flags or nothing with the slander laws. I think if you have a legitamate claim of abuse you should be able to at least call someone and say hey take a look at this person. They abused me and you want to sleep at night knowing that they've either been caught by someone else or somehow held accountable.

Comments: I cant believe the statutes protect the guilty and penalize the victim. Im 38 and just remembering the molestation and rape by my pastor 23 years ago wreaking havoc on my entire life. Its horrific. I want justice!!! Not to mention my church cover up, and the pastors previous church cover up !! I believe God would allow for proper justice for victims.

Comments: My step-father sexually abused me over 30 years ago and I can't prosecute because the commonwealth attorney said not enough evidence. Civil suit is still being checked on with the discovery rule in VA. Please abolish the statute of limitations for civil suits if you can't prosecute. Help victims-The perpetrators walk freely while we victims try to stay alive.

Comments: In 1991 I reported the three years of abuse from 11 to 15 to a school counselor who was a mandated reporter. I reach out for help .... the police show up because she had to call .... I've now initiated the complaint and the SOL time clock starts ticking. I am 35 my life has been ruined and he's sitting there scott free because I was a kid with no family support to be able to go forward with my complaints. ELIMINATE BIAS IN FAVOR OF THE CRIMINAL.

Comments: I am the mother of two daughters who were sexually abuse by their father for many years and suffered greatly from this. They are adults in their 30's now. we know now that the statue of limitations keeps our hands tied from putting this man where he cannot reoffend again. I have decided I am going to change this law in Oregon. I was not abused myself and so I have the strength and perseverance to go forward with this. the victims are so often frozen with fear and uable to move forward to do something about stopping their abuser. Please contact me if you would live in Oregon and would like to support my efforts. I am working with the judicial committee on this important law. June

Comments: Words are inadequate to describe the effects. Raw emotion and pain are hard to confine to the realm of speech. He walks free, but I don't. Why I suppose it's because I didn't go home and tell my mom, who hated me, that she now had a good reason to. Maybe it's because I didn't want to risk losing my father's approval of me that I didn't say anything. I forgot the worst of it for such a long time that by the time I remembered, it was too late. Isn't it enough that he decided when, where, for how long, how often he would do those things; but according to "law" I have to be able to deal with it in some timeframe that benefits him, not me and my healing

Comments: i think that there should be no statute of limitations on sex crimes. i know for me the time, i think, has run out. they wouldn't let me testify against my scum of a father because i was three, and now i think the time has run out. he has gotten remarried and had another baby girl. if there were no statute of limitations, i think i would take him to court and testify.

Comments: I am working with a legislator in Oregon to change the statute of limitaions for child sex abuse in Oregon. We are going to have a bill for the 2009 legisature. We are working to change it to no limit for criminal as well as civil. This is a crime as bad if not worse then murder. How can there be a limit on the saftey of our children.
