South East Pennsylvania Transportation Authority as given notice of drastic schedule changes to the Philadelphia Airport starting 04SEP2012 lasting until mid-November at the earliest. Though improvements to the rail system are welcome; they are coming at a very high expense for both the traveling public and thousands of Philadelphia Airport employees who work at this very vital 24 hour a day 7 Days a week major transportation hub. While the proposed week day changes should not prove a major challenge, the modification proposed for the weekend is a calamity in the making that will have a more far reaching affect than SEPTA is planning for. Weekend service will be reduced to an hourly train that will operate as far as the Eastwick station, then passengers will continue via bus to their respective terminals. The level of planning for this will be beyond the scope of those visiting and are not residents of Philadelphia, as well air passengers and employees will have to contend for seats on the shuttle buses that will undoubtedly be able to keep up the pace during high density periods when airlines have intense flight banks. I'm proposing that SEPTA considers the use of filler buses that will operate inside the :30 min period that the train will not run. This service would only need to be operated on Saturday's and Sunday's during the hours of 6:00am until 8:00pm. These buses would serve the airport directly from 30th St station to the airport terminals and can be operated as an "airport employee only" shuttle thereby keeping the shuttle busses at the Eastwick Terminal free to carry air passengers, and the few employees who elect to travel via train to bus. Bus service has been offered on the weekends previously to accommodate employees and passengers, so their is a precedence to refer on for historical information on the workings of this shuttle bus. The Economical impact that the current proposal creates will have a far reaching affect for both passengers and employees, and not to mention the airlines and vendors in the airport. I propose that the SEPTA board takes these suggestion in consideration and i am asking SEPTA passengers, including air travelers, airport and airline employees, including ground workers and air crews to join me to insist further consideration is made.
