When people ask me where I go to high school, I am more than honored to tell them New Canaan High school. I am fortunate to receive such an amazing education surrounded by great friends, teachers and all faculty. On the other hand, when people have asked me about my senior year experience so far, my response has not been able to be so positive. The past three years of my high school experience has been yes, stressful, but more importantly enjoyable. Being a part of the NCHS community has really made me feel like I am part of a bigger family than just my own. This is something I wish I could say to the people asking me about my senior year. But, with the restrictions on spirit week and having our pep rally being taken away; the sense of community and family within NCHS is gone. There is one day out of the year in which we can all come together in the same room as a school and cheer for school spirit and support our teams, one day. Having that one day taken away, for incidents in the past, really makes us as students feel like all respect has been lost. We are so trusting in our teachers and peers that it is confusing as to why we can’t have this day to not only come together as a school but come together as a family. My brother, being a new freshman had told me that the pep rallys at saxe made him feel the same way and now that he is part of a new and larger community he could not wait to re-live the tradition. Leaving NCHS would be much more memorable for all of the students if they had traditions to live by and memories to be made. Having the pep rally would not only be another great experience and time to come together, but a memory made for more than 300 people in this family.
