Establish Self Serve Fuel at PWK -- Lower Prices

Subject: Support for Self-Serve Fuel at PWK
Dear Board Members:
We
are writing to you to express our strong support for the establishment
of a self-serve fuel capability at Chicago Executive Airport.
For
many years now, Chicago Executive has had—by far—the highest 100LL
aviation fuel prices of any general aviation airport in the area.
The Chicago Executive Pilots Association has determined that—of the 16 airports closest to PWK (including PWK itself):
- The only airports with higher 100LL fuel prices are O’Hare and Midway, both major commercial hubs.
- The median 100LL price in the area (INCLUDING O’Hare and Midway), is $4.36 per gallon. PWK’s fuel prices are 48% higher.
- All other general aviation airports in the area have self-serve capability, except Gary and Clow, which only offer full service fuel. Nevertheless, PWK’s full serve 100LL prices are 44% higher than Clow’s full serve prices and 51% higher than Gary’s.
Fuel prices this
much higher than the local market drive away traffic, both users
formerly based at PWK and itinerant visiting traffic. The effect can be
seen in the recent decommissioning of parking area 3.
Self-serve fuel can significantly reduce fuel prices.
In
general, at airports in the area that offer both full serve and self
serve 100LL fuel, the premium for full serve fuel is over 13% higher
than the self serve price.
Lower fuel prices will help to
retain and build based operator and flight operations at PWK and will
benefit the airport as a whole.
We all are better off when the airport is strong.
Please support the establishment of self-service 100LL fuel at Chicago Executive.
