Fast food is like being locked in a candy store. Every day you have the choice to answer your typical question, What's for Lunch You can be like the kid in the candy store and eat to your heart's desire but have no clue of its repercussions. It's not hard to swallow over 1500 calories with your double cheeseburger, French fries, and large soda from your favorite fast food not even the repercussions you are receiving from the saturated fat, cholesterol, and salt either.
For those who are looking to stay healthy or to manage their diets, wouldn't it make things easier if you knew EXACTLY what you were eating Wouldn't you be more in control if you were given the power to make the right choices for yourself Nutritional labeling in restaurants can be the answer to give you that freedom.
Foods consumed away from the home is a problem because it has more calories and is less nutritious. A national standard for nutritional labeling in restaurants will impact the health of the US by providing customers with access to detailed nutritional information before purchasing their food.
This petition calls for support for the Labeling Education and Nutrition Act bill that Congress introduced on March 10, 2009, which is looking to expand on the current packaged food labeling law to require a national standard for nutritional labeling for food chains while still giving flexibility to the restaurants. In this bill restaurants would have to provide calories count information in written form on their menu or menu boards that can be seen by the costumers before they order. Fat, sodium, cholesterol, and carbohydrates have to be given to the costumer only upon request. This Act would affect only food chains that have 20 or more establishments. We the undersigned feel that it is time to have a national standard for nutritional labeling in restaurants.
