I have often walked towards the alley from the bus and seen some odd looking people follow behind the group that leaves the bus. I always walk down tewkesbury road when this happens which is fine in the short term but having such blatant blind spots for crime in such a densely populated area is foolish.Flag

Name: Abi Silvester on Mar 17, 2013Comments: This entire side of the street is a mess. It is in serious need of re-development and having moved in to the area a couple of years ago have become increasingly worried about the personal safety of the growing number of young people using this passageway as a shortcut into the popular warehouse community area. Why does nobody seem to care about this area other than those of us who live here? The entire section between the start of the shops and the new housing development further up Seven Sisters Road is in a state of dangerous disrepair and urgently needs renovation.Flag

Name: The Arena Association on Mar 20, 2013Comments: We are a residents' association covering one of the warehouse complexes of approximately 350 people. Many of our friends have at times been followed, intimidated and even attacked here. One of our group stated that she "nearly died there". We have seen an escalation in the use of weapons e.g. knifepoint muggings, and the harassment experienced by lone females seems similarly to have become rougher and more physical. The latter finding also shared by one of the local specialist agencies (in this case dealing with sex workers), claiming "There seems to be an acting out of violence in society at the moment, particularly against women". The road at the immediate top end of the alley was historically one of Haringey's sex working "strips" and some of the girls still sporadically work there, one of our residents was "kerb crawled" all the way to her front door, only last week. As a crime spot this is certainly not solely recent, an elderly member of another resident's association reported being attacked here many years ago. The alleyway is being used more, particularly by the thriving warehouse community at it's end. We, on behalf of our members, support any means of establishing this as a secure, vibrant entrance to and celebration of our's and our neighbours' communities. Rather than a 'ticking time bomb" for another Haringey bad news story.Flag
