While we agree that a new policy is needed to address bomb threats, continuing to both disrupt classes by evacuating for every threat and also securing buildings is excessively disruptive.
Instead, we propose that Pitt stops evacuating buildings once they have been secured.
In addition, not allowing backpacks is impractical for many students. Instead, we propose having two lines at each building. A quick line for those who do not have bags, and a second line for those with bags so that their bags can be quickly searched for explosives.
This policy would address the danger of having a bomb in a campus building but would be much less disruptive to campus life.
