The persons with hearing impairment urge to commemorate Bangla Sign Language Day on 1 February to ensure the rights of persons with hearing impairment in Bangladesh. Already Government is observing National Disability Day, International Day for Person with Disabilities, World Autism Day, World White Cane Day and some other days to ensure the rights of persons with disabilities. World White Cane Day observed by the government for the persons with visual impairment but, persons with hearing impairment, the largest section amongst persons with disabilities in Bangladesh, are always ignored from their rights and dignities. The persons with hearing impairment states, Bangla Sign Language can explicitly uphold the unique characteristics of this people. So, it is essential to commemorate Bangla Sign Language Day on 1 February by the government to ensure the rights of persons with hearing impairment. By commemorating the day communication and relation will be properly build up between the government and the people with hearing impairment.

1 February 2009, Honorable Prime Minister Shekh Hasina recognized Bangla Sign Language as a language of this country at the inauguration of `Ekushe Boi Mela’. She directed all the TV Channels, including BTV to broadcast their prime news in Bangla Sign Language to ensure the information rights of persons with hearing impairment. Regarding this very day, persons with hearing impairment decided to commemorate Bnagla Sign Language Day on 1 February. Honorable Prime Minister Shekh Hasina declared Bangla Sign Language as a language of Bangladesh. And through this declaration the movement to recognition of Bangla Sign Language has reached a milestone. The relation amid history, culture and February are enormously attached in Bangladesh. Presently 21 February is observing as ‘Mother Language Day’ all over the world. From this context, to strengthen the movement of state recognition and institutionalization of Bangla Sign language, Persons with hearing impairments are alleging to commemorate Bangla Sign Language Day, 1 February of every year by the government.
