I have some insight into the discrimination and stigmatization that they face day by day. I have some who have recently married and some insight into the joy this brought them. While I would prefer that the government term were "domestic partner," whatever it is called, gays and lesbians should not be discriminated against. Christ mingled freely with those whom society detested. The Christian Church should not add to their problems. The SDA Church, being at the front line on religious discrimination should not discriminate at all.

However, I recognize that my reasons for holding these positions are spiritual, religious and theological. Neither I nor any other person has the right to impose spiritual, religious or theological standards on someone who does not profess the same beliefs. Thus I must recognize the freedom of others to do things which I, in my own religious understanding would see as unbiblical and wrong. This includes same-sex marriage.
