Elspeth Cooper | There is a strong economic case for RET throughout the islands. At present we are penalised for choosing to reside or being born a few miles from Mainland Scotland.
Pam Woodcock | The fares should be equally subsidised to all the islands ,not just "cherry pick" to pick up crucial votes as this smacks of bribery!

| 110 | Emma Bain | Hello
I am glad to read that someone else thinks that it is unfair that the Western Isles residents are getting highly subsidised ferry fares!! I live on Orkney and we are more socially isolated than the Western Isles. To be fair all the island groups should be on an even keel, please champion this cause on us islanders behalf!!! Thanks for trying. |
| 111 | John P Shearer | Lifeline Ferry Links are exactly that - "Lifelines" - and as such should be consistent throughout the Scottish Islands.

Sian Thomas | Ferry services provide a life-line service for Orkney both within and outwith the isles. I strongly believe there should be an equitable reduction in ferry fares across the Highland and Islands.
Geoffrey Elborn | The costs of travelling to and from Orkney is appalling, and I and others welcome any reduction in fares.
Elizabeth Drever | Please reduce our ferry fares in Orkney which have just increased
Anonymous | I live in Orkney and agree that ferry fares should be reduced for those who live there and have no choice but to use the ferries. The cost is too high and why should people have to pay more to live where they live on an island?? SOme people are not well off and cannot afford this.

Jo MacDonald | Scottish Government have promised supplementary grant under contract to CalMac & NorthLink to cover recent increases in oil prices & encouraged fuel saving measures to avoid passing on increases in fares. Orkney Ferries must pass on 25% increases to passengers. Is this fair? Parity, equity & fairness are all lacking from a government decision to currently allocate RET to one island group while another island group is forced to stomach huge hike in fares hitting local residents & businesses and visitors alike. Is this fair? £74.60 for 2 x adults; 2 x children and a car for return North Isles travel In Orkney (admittedly can be lower if a book of tickets are purchased). either way that's not a cheap daytrip to Orkney Mainland or North Isles! People would travel without the car if the public transport infrastructure supported it - but it simply doesn't at present.

L Drever | Travel cost to and from the islands discourages visitors and the cost of fares for haulage increases the cost of goods on the island making the cost of living high for the inhabitants.

Melissa Spence | I think it is hugely unfair that one set of islands would receive a different subsidy than the others. It is essentially a tax on where people choose to live.

Harcus Stout | If the isles are to survive we must have access to reliable and cheaper ferries, as some of us have to use more than one ferry to reach the Scottish mainland.

noreen Wright | When thinking about travelling there is always the added cost of the ferry. Now petrol prices are through the roof with the ferry price I cannot afford to get of the island for a holiday

Anonymous | If the ferry fares go up much more my wife and I may be forced to leave the island. It will get to be that we can't afford to commute!

Iain MacDonald | The decision to run a pilot fare reduction scheme only on Western Isles routes appears to be motivated by narrow political ends.
