Dorothy O'Donnell | It's patently unfair to have reduced prices in one islands area and not in others equally dependent on tourism. The impact of rising fuel costs is hitting island communities very hard, and increasing ferry fares in Orkney, while reducing them in the Western Isles, is blatant discrimination.

from lower ferry fares, especially for a period of three years. |

Peter Brown | I find it most unfair that SNP strongholds are getting reduced ferry tariffs "as an experiment" whilst the rest of the Isles continue to to pay the old rates. ALL scottish isles should be treated the same. Or is the government selective about which parts of Scotland it really supports?
Mrs C Wakefield | Fair fares for all islanders.
Anonymous | I think that it is important for the economic well being of our isles that ferr fares be reduced consistently firstly for residents and then for tourists. An even better approach would be to treat them as road as they do in the USA and make them free. As it is islanders pay equal road tax (often for very poor roads) without being able to access the full network.

David Melbourne | As Orkney farmers and fish farmers supply a substantial amount of foodstuff to the market, it becomes essential to keep food prices down by keeping ferry fares low – especially in the current economic climate. In addition, it is unfair to penalise people who live and work on the islands, while helping others on the UK mainland – an extremely insular and retrograde outlook.
