Lesley Leonhardt | I've hoped this issue would come up since I moved here 8 years ago! It's about time they start doing this.
Mark Seel | Keep up the great work! This is the proactive type of thinking this city needs!
Chun-Te Ko | I'd love to see the extension of work hrs for construction. I was fed up with endless delays on major roads. The construction on Parameter between St Mary's rd and Pembina highway has been taken almost 2 years !! It is so rediculous !!
Peter Tod | The construction season is short enough that restricts the amount of work that can be completed. A longer work day would greatly increase the amount of work that could be done. It would also shorten the amount of time ( by weeks) the road blockages would be up. Wake up City of Wpg! The only problem with this idea is that it makes sense, which is in short supply in politicians and bureaucrats. Scott, with ideas that are simple/make sense/ and work you won't last long in politics. Keep up the fight.

Anonymous | I agree construction should be done on weekends and longer in the evenings. Just like other cities.

James William Chambers | I noticed some city workers doing some work on the nothbound lane on Kenaston just south of the underpass at 11:00pm last Monday Aug.7. While this is a step in the right direction, I was alarmed that they were working in practically complete darkness with only orange cones protecting them from the oncoming traffic. It was startling to see images moving around in the darkness at the last minute, and they were working...one man was grinding concrete. In other cities where workers work at night the area is lit up almost like daylight with floodlights. If one worker is injured because of doing night work in the upcoming months it will kill this initiative in it's tracks. .
Dave Hickling | We were in Rome last month. Three blocks of a street near our hotel was shut down at about 8pm one night. Street crews stripped the old asphalt, prepped the street, laid the asphalt and had new lines painted by 8AM the next morning and the street was reopened. Yes it appears that Romans still do know something about making roads!
Kris Bulat | Finally, the construction season might be a little shorter
Harry Underwood | maybe instead of having 10 projects on the go have half as many in they don'' have the staff to otherwise. which would mean less detours.

| 527 | Jim and Irene Haddow | Scott when we lived in Calgary, they used to haul the flood lights out at night and START work at around 9:00 pm. In fact Mcleod Trail was completely resurfaced at night, that included scrapping the old pavement off and in fact they used to paint the lines on the scrapped off pavement so when the road was FULLY open the next morning there was no confusion. Go get them

p.s. fully support your privitization plans. Used to walk my dog in Assinaboine park every day, I have lots of stories if you are interested on our great park workers. |

W. Baniuk | Why not also have construction between 10PM & 8AM on areas of high traffic , low residential such as Bishop Grandin?

| 533 | Elizabeth Fallis | I truly believe that this is an excellent idea, having evening & weekend construction. If the larger cities are doing it I see no reason why Winnipeg can't do the same. Many professions (nursing, laboratories, police, firefighters etc) & businesses (hydro, security [brinks], miners, telephone [MTS], processing centres[banks], etc) have been doing shift work for decades upon decades, so why not construction workers. Most of them are unionized, so they should be able to work out a suitable schedule for them. Maybe some of those men standing around, while a few appear to be working, could fill the later shift and/or weekends. And all those apparent supervisors can do shift work also.
The other point I would like to make is also the fact that once they do fix up a street, maybe while they are digging it up they could talk with the utility people and find out if a water main or gas line needs to be replaced. That is, instead of waiting until the following spring/summer to dig up newly paved road to replace or repair those utilities. |

Darren Marrese | I am all for having major construction work done aft 4pm. Major US cities have been doing this forever and it's time WPG adopts this practice as well. It would be safer for the workers, too, as they'd avoid major traffic issues and unhealthy daytime temperatures. It just makes more sense.
Kevin Huewan | Very much so! Thank you sir.
Joe Kupfer | Another simple idea that makes nothing but good sense and for some reason Winnipeg has been behind the times on. Thank you for trying to get this accomplished.
Kyle Donnelly | Simple ideas such as this should be implemented. The "this is how it's always been done" attitude has retarded Winnipeg's development.
Anonymous | Strongly agree for longer hours.
jack chambers | it's long overdue
Jesse Hamonic |
Anonymous | Fully support this idea of speedier construction completions
Beverly Wood | I whole heartedly agree that construction should continue in the evenings and weekends and it is about time Winnipeg stop the naysaying and start looking for solutions with a Can Do Attitude!

Anna Krzyzelewski | I think this is a great idea. I used to live in Atlanta, and that is what is done there. Rush-hour is not as affected. It was great.
Anonymous | I've always thought that this would be a good idea. I would like to see it happen.
Perry Sotiropoulos |
Eric Friesen | Actually, every major city other than Winnipeg uses off-peak hours construction to get the work done.
Amanda Dykeman | This would be great to see! Definately will help things get done
