At a time when people are being encouraged to use more busses and public transport school buses still don't have seat belts and I for one will not be allowing my child on the bus anymore and I will travel in my car with them safetly belted in and clog up the roads with my car!!!Flag

Name: Brandie Markham on Oct 20, 2003State: IDCountry: USComments: I think that is about time for seatbelts to be put in our school buses! Our number one priority in this country should be our children! It floors me when states take such high priority to notify the public of new seatbelt laws for your vehicle but they do nothing for our children riding unaware of the dangers!Flag

Name: Robin Horton on Oct 23, 2003State: GACountry: USComments: It is appalling that our goveernment can't mandate a change in this OLD system. Our children deserve better than this. I couldn't believe it the first time I got on(then off!) a school bvus with my 5 year old and there were no seatbelts. It is absolutely unbelievable! I will support any effort you make to change this-just let me know what I can do. Thankyou for caring! Robin HortonFlag

Name: Madonna Long on Feb 4, 2004State:Country:Comments: all national.. first of all being a survivor of a school bus accident..and paralyzed from it. I lobby for seat belts nationwideMadonna Long is an advocate for Seat Belts in School Buses Nationwide and School Bus safety. She is a lobbyist for the National Coalition for Safety in School buses and has donated her time and her personal story for the advocacy of this issue. She believes that Safety lies in technology and School Districts taking action to prevent Accidents from Happening. Madonna believes that School bus safety must take place on the Bus and in the Bus. People must be accountable for their actions. School Districts must train and monitor Bus Drivers. Bus Drivers must be screened. School buses need to be maintained and meet Federal Requirements. She believes that Seat Belts are an important device that will prevent injuries and death from happening. Madonna Long (Crosthwaite) was injured her senior year of high school in Utah on a School Bus. Her High School Ski Club was returning from a skiing trip to their home in Kemmerer, Wyoming when the bus lost its brakes and over turned on the Mountain. If we don't make a change to this there will innocent lives put to stake. Think about the safety of our kids. This needs to change We're talking about safety here for our children. Make this a law that safety belts are required and essential for children to put on in school busses.Flag

Name: Misty Reeves on Apr 8, 2004State: OKCountry: USComments: I was home-schooled from Kindergarten till high school graduation, so I was unaware of the lack of seatbelts in the school buses at our rural school. However, my 4 year old son started Pre-K in August, and has already taken 5 trips on the school buses, without the seat belts. I am fanatic about using seat belts, booster seats, car seats, etc. with my 2 sons, and now I find out that anytime he goes on a "fun" field trip, he will be doing so unsafely! Please help us correct this, because children really are a precious commodity.Flag

There are strict fines if you break this law. Also, Maine law requires children ages birth to eight years old be riding in a car seat, I don't understand why school buses don't have to follow the law and the rest of us do.Flag

Name: Maria Zuniga on Sep 24, 2004State: TXCountry: USComments: It is absolutely ridiculous not to have seatbelts on yellow school buses. The padding on the seat it is not enough to prevent our children from being ejected by a side impact crash or a rollover crash. It is the law to have seatbelts on vehicles and some buses. Why not make it all buses. If I am not wrong, I even think that eighteen wheelers have seatbelts.Flag

Safety is always the main concern: in school, at work, at home, and even making movies. why not in sh=chool buses What, is the money too much for the government to handle Especially if they're children. If one of they're children died (God forbid) then they would pay attention to it, but since they are only the kids of the common people it doesn't matter. RightFlag

Name: Jeanne Michael on Nov 30, 2004State: PACountry: USComments: In the state of PA, it is now mandatory that children be in a booster seat until they are 8 years old, yet they are put on the school bus at the tender age of 5 without a seat belt!!! This is ridiculous! Children are the most precious of cargo, and they deserve better from their school buses!Flag
