We, the undersigned general supporters and the students and staff of The University of Sydney, call for a new student-run gallery for the Sydney College of the Art to be provided and operational as of 2012 to coincide with the Vice Chancellor's strategic plan to "Enrich the experience of University life for all our students".

We Request this facility due to the closure of the "Newspace" gallery which was a vital service for SCA students. The gallery was supporting students in their development as practicing artists and was unable to be sustained due to the cancellation of compulsory union fees, which has now been replaced by the Student Services and Amenities fee.

We expect the University to do the right thing and give us back what was previously ours and to keep our support services and facilities in line with our competitor educational facilities, to ensure that we are not disadvantaged by not having exhibition experience which is essential for our professional development and career opportunities as practicing visual artists.
