I have just graduated from Sojourner Douglass College in Maryland. My financial aid ran out and I ended up owing the college money. They refused to let me participate in graduation ceremonies. They are also withholding my diploma. they made me sign a promissory note that said if I don't pay them they will sue me. They said if I gave them 1/3 of the money they would let me walk. I gave them all of my income tax money ($1100.00) but when the time came they reniged. I was hurt but I had to accept this. I was just glad to have earned my degree. Now I 'am looking for a job in my field and they are refusing to release my transcripts. I think this is a violation of my rights. They say I can get my transcripts if I give them 1/3 of the new current balance. I just don't have it. They have put me in a catch 22 position. They want me to pay them but they are blocking me from getting a job in my field. I want to send this petition to the governor.
