We oppose the confirmation of Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court of the United States.
Judge Alito has written that it is not the role of the Federal government to protect the “health, safety and welfare” of the American people.
Our community relies on Federal laws protecting civil rights for minorities, women, the elderly and disabled, and laws protecting our civil liberties and an individual’s right to privacy.
We also rely on national laws protecting the environment, setting health and safety standards in the workplace, and setting food and drug safety standards.
Alito’s radical interpretation of the Constitution could undermine all of these laws. His expressed judicial philosophy threatens fundamental rights and legal protections for all Americans -- for decades to come. The Senate should reject his confirmation to a lifetime seat on the Supreme Court. |
