We, the undersigned, believe that there needs to be a complete turnover in the leadership (i.e., the officers and close associates of the officers) of the Board of Trustees of The Stony Brook School. Since the January 2010 attempt to amend the Platform of Principles, this Board continues to demonstrate either a profound lack of understanding of the vision of Frank E. Gaebelein, or an unannounced agenda to fundamentally change the nature of the School. Accordingly, we the undersigned, hereby pledge that we will participate in a moratorium on giving to the School’s Fund for Character Education (FFCE – the annual fund) until such time as the resignations of Sierd Tilma, Michael Koh, Wallace Larson, J. Douglas Kirk, Norman Koop and Daniel Yates from the Board of Trustees, are effective, although this moratorium shall not include giving to any specific directed School need of our choosing (e.g., endowment, scholarships). We would like to give to the FFCE but cannot in good conscience do so. We hope that these resignations will soon be forthcoming, so that we may soon feel free to give to the FFCE. In addition, we hereby demand that there be a complete overhaul of the Board’s membership and governance, and ask that a committee be formed under the oversight of a third party or parties, whose knowledge of, experience at, and dedication to The Stony Brook School is unquestionable. With the appointment of Joshua Crane as next Head of School commencing July 1, 2013, we believe that now is the best time for fresh leadership. We hope and pray that Mr. Crane’s tenure at Stony Brook will be successful, and mark the beginning of a new period of meaningful inclusion, optimism and quantifiable successes. Given Joshua Crane’s limited secondary school and boarding school experience, it is important to ensure Stony Brook’s continued hard won academic reputation. Therefore, we suggest that Mr. Crane avail himself of the mentoring of retired Stony Brook senior masters and administrators who live locally. They would be more than willing to help. * Please read the Statement in Support of the Petition, located in the Blog tab above. ** Please indicate your class or affiliation below (ex: Class of '77, parent, former faculty, etc.). *** Please ignore the donation request by iPetition on the following page.

**** If you wish to make a pledge to the FFCE upon the success of this petition, please so indicate.  Thank you!
