Name: Tony Wang on Jun 11, 2012Comments: This is a badly executed move by the City of Toronto. It is okay to protect core areas within the downtown waterfront, but a single attempt in mass-creation of no-fishing zones is just waiting to be failed. They need to add in zones where fishing is allowed, rather than only not allowed.Flag

Name: Kenneth Tse on Jun 11, 2012Comments: The action that City of Toronto had taken is undemocratic. The prohibition to fishing access without justification and public consultation is simply an infringement to the rights of Torontonians. I use the waterfront and Toronto parks as a jogger, cyclist, canoist, as well as an angler. I find that all user groups can participate and share the public space. I never had any safety issues in the 15 years using waterfront for the above activities.Flag

Name: Charles G MacLeod Stuart on Jun 11, 2012Comments: I never heard of anything so ridiculous in my life! The fishing license/harbour fees and local revenue to small business and hotels would be lost and at what cost to taxpayers, as more of downtown TO becomes a graveyard. Take a look across the border! Do we want Toronto to become another Buffalo, New York? Is that what Torontonians want? I think NOT!Flag

Name: Remo Carpeneto on Jun 12, 2012Comments: I suspect some wealthy boat owners are using their friends on Toronto's City Council and Management Staff to impose this ridiculous fishing ban. Why stop with waterfront fishing. How about banning boating, jet skis, surfing, sail boarding, sailing, scuba diving, swimming, snorkeling, jogging, dog walking, sports activities, family gatherings and barbeques, baby strollers, roller blades, skate boards, bicycles, tricycles, walking, breathing, etc. If anything, fishing should be encouraged all across the Toronto waterfront. Anglers support area businesses and spend millions of dollars. Let's not forget people with small watercraft that pay fees to use boat launches which, in my opinion, is ridiculous as well. Do all the above activities pay fees to use the parks and waterfront areas ? Why are boat launch users singled out ? Waive the launching fees and I'll bet you'll see even more cash injection into area businesses. Don't keep banning people from public areas that their tax dollars paid for. Allow ALL people to enjoy the parks, trails and waterways, not just a select few. Myself, along with many others, await the city council decision on this matter. We will be looking specifically for councillors who support this fishing ban and pass on the information to family and friends. The internet is a wonderful tool to inform people of issues like this and help them vote accordingly in the next election.Flag
