Comments: Most of the time I feel very proud to be a Dominican American, if one can make such a redundant claim. However, what I feel 100% proud of, unequivocally, is being part of the human race and in complete solidarity with the oppressed Dominican women (victims of a misogynist and oppressive male chauvinism); the gay and lesbian community (victims of ignorance and backwards obscurantism); and our Haitian brothers and sisters (victims of economic oppression, intolerance and an all too pervasive institutionalized racism). In the name of decency and our own sense of humanity, this is a plea to the Dominican government not to preserve a traditionalism based on laws that can only serve the purpose of a few while stifling and suffocating the interests and rights of many. Recognize people for their true worth as human beings and repeal these most draconian constitutional measures. Sincerely, Frank Acosta
