Dear supporter or signer for the petition ‘Say No to UCR Protest Guidelines’,
Thank you very much for your support and/or signing the petition.
Your voice has made a difference! The UC Riverside administration has removed the Protest Guidelines from the university website on Dec 14, 2011.
Tim White, UCR Chancellor issued two letters in two consecutive days, the first announcing a plan to form a task force to review the guidelines and the second announcing the removal of the guidelines. Also available at: http://deanofstudents.ucr.edu/policiesProcedures/Pages/default.aspx
In his letter to remove the guidelines, Chancellor White says “the document does not accurately reflect UC Riverside’s demonstrated commitment to free expression and peaceful, non-violent protest”. Also, he '[r]egret[s] any confusion and discontent caused by the document' and he admits that ‘[t]he document and its posting were not worthy of this great university'.
Please follow our updates on the petition site: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/say-no-to-ucr-protest-guidelines/. At this moment, we are concerned with the clearly bureaucratic scheme of the formation of the task force, whose members will be selected by invitation from the university administration and chaired by the university administration (the Chancellor).
At the University of California, the battle for freedom and preserving public higher education is ongoing and will continue. We thank all of you who have contributed to this cause by raising your voice!
