We the undersigned denounce racism against Indigenous Taino People, as well as black communities and afro-descendants in Puerto Rico.
Recently, the University of Puerto Rico’s School of Law filed a complaint with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights citing the violation of human rights in Puerto Rico.A news article entitled "Human Rights in Puerto Rico; Are they making racism invisible?" published on March 12th at “El Post Antillano”, responded to the complaint critiquing the absence of the subject of Racism against Black communities, afro-descendants, and Indigenous Peoples in Puerto Rico.
Providing an example of current climate of racism against Indigenous Peoples in Puerto Rico,a group of radical pro-Spain Puerto Ricans, “Autonomía para Puerto Rico”, led by its president, Iván Arrache, recently launched a campaign seeking to remove references to the Indigenous Taino Peoples from school books used on the Island. The pro-Spain group also seeks to present a more "positive" image of Spanish Conquistadors in school curriculum. This group’s core political position is that Puerto Rico should be re-annexed to Spain and Puerto Ricans should again be subjects of the Spanish Crown. They claim thousands of followers on the island including former political figures and members of the Puerto Rican Board of Education.
In response to these racists positions against Indigenous Peoples and the People of Puerto Rico, a respected community member and representative of the United Confederation of Taino People, Tai Pellicier (Tai Pelli) posted a professional, well-documented response to these statements; she was subsequently slandered by members of the racist group in question; her personal Face Book page was hacked and rendered inaccessible. The President of the radical group, Ivan Arrache, has claimed responsibility for this cyber-attack taking place during Women’s History Month, March 2015.
The United Confederation of Taino People is calling on all people of good conscience to join us in expressing solidarity for our sister Tai Pellicier (Tai Pelli) and to denounce the racist attempt to remove the Taino from school text books and the intent to present the conquistador in a more "positive manner". In addition, we condemn violations against the basic human right of self-determination and all forms of racism, especially against those who proudly affirm indigenous Taino heritage, as well as institutionalized racism against Black communities and Afro-Descendants in Puerto Rico.

contra del Pueblo Indígena Taíno, al igual que de poblaciones negras y
afro-descendientes en Puerto Rico.
Recientemente, La Escuela de Derecho de la Universidad de Puerto Rico sometió una querella ante la Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos, citando violación de derechos humanos en Puerto Rico.Un artículo noticiero titulado “Derechos Humanos en Puerto Rico: ¿se invisibiliza el racismo?”, publicado el 12 de marzo de 2015 en “El Post Antillano”, respondió a la querella criticando la ausencia del tema de Racismo contra poblaciones negras, afro-descendientes y Pueblos Indígenas en Puerto Rico.
Para proveer un ejemplo del clima corriente de racismo contra Pueblos Indígenas en Puerto Rico; un grupo radical de Puertorriqueños Pro-España, “Autonomía para Puerto Rico”, dirigido por su presidente, Iván Arrache, lanzó una campaña para remover referencias sobre el Pueblo Indígena Taíno de los libros de texto en Puerto Rico. Este grupo tambien busca presentar a los Conquistadores Españoles de una manera “más positiva” en el currículo escolar. La posición principal de este grupo es el re-anexo de Puerto Rico a España y que los puertorriqueños vuelvan a ser súbditos de la Corona Española. Dicen tener miles de seguidores en la isla, incluyendo previas figuras políticas y miembros de la Junta de Educación de Puerto Rico.
En respuesta a estas posiciones racistas en contra del Pueblo Indígena y la gente de Puerto Rico, una respetada miembro de la comunidad y representante de la Confederación Unida del Pueblo Taíno, Tai Pellicier (Tai Pelli), profesionalmente publicó respuestas bien documentadas a estas declaraciones; seguidamente fue calumniada por miembros de este grupo extremista en cuestión, su página personal de Facebook fue hackeada y quedó inaccesible. El Presidente de este grupo radical, Iván Arrache, reclamó responsabilidad de este ataque cibernético tomando lugar durante el Mes de la Historia de la Mujer, Marzo 2015.
La Confederación Unida del Pueblo Taíno hace un llamado a la gente de buen juicio a que se unan a nosotros para expresar nuestra solidaridad a nuestra hermana Tai Pellicier (Tai Pelli) y a denunciar el intento racista de remover al Taíno de los libros de texto escolares y la intención de presentar al conquistador de una manera “más positiva”. Además, condenamos violaciones contra el derecho humano básico de la libre-determinación y todas las formas de racismo, especialmente perpetradas contra aquellos que afirman orgullosamente su herencia Indígena Taína, asi tambien como el racismo institucionalizado contra poblaciones negras y afro-descendientes en Puerto Rico.

Our people were slaughtered, tortured, raped, enslaved, killed and infected by the Spaniards. Why would you praise the Spaniards and try to further eliminate your True heritage- the Taíno, the original inhabitants of Puerto Rico & the rest of the Caribbean Islands?!
The United States attempt to change our history text books by teaching we aren't Taino descendants, is so we are looked as we never existed, therefore won't have to pay reparations for the invasion and americanization of our land, Borinkén (Puerto Rico).
You have a Oglala Lakota Sioux ALLY. The European mindset is strong, but we have the truth on our side. Spain did nothing good for Puerto Rico, why did they separate from Spain in the first place?
I am Borinken Taino we are still here, and we will be heard. People need to stop trying to pretend that nothing happened to my people started and caused by the hatred and plain greed of the Spaniards. No more Racism, no more silenced Tainos. We are still here!!!!
It is an embarrasment in this day and age of clarit andenlightenment we shouldeven be debating the legitimacy of teaching the truth of the barbarism with which Indigenous people were conquered and oppressed in the Americas by the Spanish conquistadores and their descendants.
This was in 2015. WHAT HAPPENED?!

I support the work of La Confederacion Unida Del Pueblo Taino and our sister Tai Pellicier, for their trustworthy work about the Taino and African heritage in the Caribbean. Our history is already written, for us to learn and know what really happened. We are really proud of our Taino and our African heritage.
