Name: Julian Matthews on Sep 10, 2004State:Country: MYComments: I learnt everything about diving in Kg Tekek. There are so many found memories of the place both above and under water and great friendships were cemented there with Pako, Susanne, Jasper, Foo, Uncle John and many others from around the world. Save Tekek, save Tioman now!Flag

Name: Abdulhadi Wahid on Sep 10, 2004State:Country: MYComments: Tekek is where I was certified as an Open Water Diver and now I conduct my Open Water and Advanced courses there from time to time. The dive sites are infront of Tekek are ideal for certification dives 1 and 2 while Sawadee is ideal for Deep and Wreck dives. Please preserve the sites to ensure that we can train more divers and thus protect our underwater heritage for a "slightly" longer period of time Abdulhadi Wahid PADI Instructor #476894Flag

Name: Julinna Oxley on Sep 11, 2004State: LACountry: USComments: I dove at Tioman this summer, and it was beautiful. Unfortunately, one can still observe the damage to the reefs and seabed that development has done. Surely there are other islands that want a Marina Honestly, it's not worth it cause as soon as the quality of diving declines, so will the tourism. Building a Marina will purportedly boost the economy, but in the long run, it will ruin it. All you have to do is look at other islands in the region and see what has happened. Cheers, J. Name: Simon Rimmington on Sep 11, 2004State:Country: MYComments: I have been to Tioman 5 times in the past year. I think it is a beautiful and unique island. Any development has to be well planned and thought out. It appears that this process is not taking place -- eg the building of the horrible food court at Salang. Development should improve a place and not destroy it.Flag

Name: Azman Hassan on Sep 12, 2004State:Country: MYComments: Develpoment in Tioman should start with ensuring adequate, eco-friendly infrastructure for the wonderful island group. the vision of development seemed inconsistantto preserving the natural attraction of the island group. it seems limited to merely adding buildings and structures such as the marina. i would urge an open / transparently held dialogue comprising on Tioman's inhabitants, NGO's, global experts on ecology and relevant government authorities. together, this can give rise to suggestions on a vision for Tioman, and other not overly developed Malaysia islands for that matter, that hopefully puts the decisions in the hands of our already mature society, in other words, establish the correct guardianship with those more suitable to play an advisory role, remain advisors and provide support, not make ill-informed decisions.Flag

Name: Chee Kiong Toh on Sep 12, 2004State:Country: SGComments: What attracts me to Tioman are its laid back, under-developed status and nature marine beauty. There is ABSOLUTELY NO need for a marina development at Tekek. We love it just the way it is!!! STOP before damages are done!!!Flag
