Name: Anonymous on Sep 23, 2008Comments: No, I do not want to support the wild horses. I feel that your DNA research is not properly supported. By just viewing this web page I do not see the results of the DNA research nor, when I visit the Texas A&M web page do they even mention that they have tested the Corolla wild horses for Colonial Spanish DNA. Someone needs to take responsibility of these free ranging animals, and since you are posting a web site I would say that you are the responsible party. Therefore, as the owners of the horses you should be fencing them in (according to state law) and protecting their well being as well as promoting responsible animal husbandry. By properly assisting and managing the free ranging horses you should be able to eliminate the genetic problems that you are currently speaking of, and not require this petition. In addition, North Carolina state law confirms that it is a “Fence In” state. So, when will you be truely responsible for these poor helpless animals.Flag

Something needs to be done before another piece of American history and heritage disappears for good. The horses deserve the same protection afforded to any other endangered or threatened species. I support the Corolla Wild Horse Fund and their tireless efforts to allow one of the last remaining herds of Colonial Spanish Mustangs to thrive at a healthy and viable population level.Flag

Name: Nellie Manlove on Sep 23, 2008Comments: The Corolla wild horses are an important resource that should be protected at a level that will allow their survival, which is at least a heard of 100. Cutting the heard to 60 horses will put them in danger for extinction. Without genetic diversity, one disease could wipe out the entire population. We cannot allow this to happen. Once gone, we cannot get them back.Flag

Name: Susan Murphy on Sep 23, 2008Comments: One of the reasons we built our vacation home in Carova Beach is the herd of wild horses. Typically we see them every day and have named them. We love to go in the spring to see all the new foals. It saddens me to think that our government once again can destroy something that brings so much joy to people. The herd needs to be at 120 to be viable. Then let it be at least that. These beautiful creatures should be protected!!!!!Flag
