Gerri Pantel ChinksThirty eight years ago, I took the first of many art courses at the Saidye. I still get the same sense of excitement and energy every time I walk into the building. My husband and children have all benefited from its wonderful courses and teachers. I am disbelieving, saddened and angry at the "restructuring" of this wonderful institution. It is a tragedy for the entire city. A loss for the ARTS. Gerri Pantel Chinks

Abigail HirschI think this is tragic for the whole Montreal community. Its a shame to destroy something that is working and is so productive for so many people across generations and skills. They have arts programs for the handicapped, for children and adults at all levels.
Madeleine RozonThe Youth of our Country is the Future of our Country ! Do we not think it important to give them the tools to succeed in any avenue they choose to develop in?

Louis Georges VanierI sign for all the members of the "coopérative sauvons l'usine".
Peter KarnauchowWas an evening student for many sessions and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Cancelling is a loss to the community, teachers, artists and students.

Ann PearsonI was surprised and dismayed to hear of the sudden decision to close the Saidye School of Arts. It is an important venue for the arts in Montreal. I have given classes there, seen many a fine exhibit of student as well as international work at the Centre. It was more than a school ,fostering creative development in people of all ages, and promoting interaction both within the artistic community adn the community at large.

Lila DruckmanArguments have been made for the closing because there are "other" studios for art students. that is NOT so!. A few studios that offer artistic studies are located in local areas, but none have the strong faculty, excellent equipment, spacious facilities. The Visual Art Centre, cannot compete on any level. It does not have the professional character.

Dr. Hal MyersMy aunt Edna Myers worked in the art dept for many years. I believe she brought joy, knowledge and a love of art to thousands of people. In this age of 'science', a sense of art and beauty should continue to be expressed and encouraged.

AnonymousIt would be such a shame for the center to be converted. I have taken several fine arts classes there and believe that it`s one of a kind!!!

Dr Ari Tzvi WloskiWhat foolish comittee neck deep in bureaucrap had conceved such poorly thought out plot! There are people wgon want to teach at the seniors centre across the street but there is no room. The SBC did not want to rent the space. New Ideas go unheaded and the bill is [padded by other Y expenses) I will bet that the fund raising by the Y is going to get a bit more difficult and membership may also fall. This afront to our artistic community, youth and others who have learned to depend on the SBC as a core of activities, art shows and education.

peggy fixmanthis is one institution that should be saved and not discarded as rubbish...the school and what the saidye means to the community is most important...one should never discard culture!!!!!!!!!
