Name: Prof.Dr. Ingo Pini on Mar 1, 2010Comments: The Cabinet des Médailles, of which we published a part in Corpus der Minoischen und Mykenischen Siegel vol. IX (H. and M. van Effenterre) is an extremely important collection for Greek and Roman vases, numismatics and seals of the Greek and Roman Antiquity. To close down this important institution would be a certificate of poverty for a country with a great cultural history. Ingo PiniFlag

Name: Dr David Tomalin on Mar 17, 2010Comments: I am a frequent visitor to Paris and I am truly shocked by the thoughtless proposal to close tyour museum and replace it with a superficial 'gallery of treasures'. In Britain, a number of museums have demeaned themselves by reducing their displayed collections and arrogantly opting for 'selection'. As a consequence, their visitors are disenchanted and alienated. We look to the museums of Paris and to the Cabinet des Medailles as a shining example of Europe's cultural heritage displayed in full and at its best. Like a fine oak, the beauty is what has grown, not what can be sawn off. A 'selected' history is the a politically distorted history and there is no egalite. Resiste (Please re-cast these words en Francaise if it will help).Flag

Name: Anthony Harpur on Mar 20, 2010Comments: The oldest and most intact pre-revolutionary museum in France should not be dispersed or reduced to oblivion. By all means renovate the Richelieu section of the Bibliotheque National, but give the Cabinet des Medailles a new home. This would keep the collection intact as an entity in its own right.Flag

Name: Mrs Elaine O'Malley on Mar 21, 2010Comments: Please strive to save this wonderful treasure. There are enough very large musuems in Paris and elsewhere. There is a need for the collections in the Cabinet des Medailles to be maintained for the public, researchers and students alike. The decorative arts from all civilisations are so important for our understanding of the social, economic and political life of the people who have produced such wonderful objects. When collections are dispersed they lose their impact and the expertise and initmate knowledge of curators and researchers who have worked with the collections will also be lost. Please leave the museum as it is.Flag
