SaveTheMNR.ca: Petition

WHEREAS the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) plays a vital role in the protection and management of the natural resources that belong to all Ontarians;

AND WHEREAS the MNR budget for 2006-07 was 18 per cent less, in real terms, than it was in 1992-93;

AND WHEREAS vital programs relating to fish and wildlife, provincial parks, forestry, and other MNR activities continue to be cut back;

AND WHEREAS the aesthetic, economic, educational, environmental, recreational, and social value of our natural resources far exceeds the cost of protecting and managing them;

AND WHEREAS the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario has made it clear in his April 2007 report that the MNR does not have the capacity to do all the work that Ontarians expect it to do;

THAT funding of the Ministry Natural Resources be increased to a level that will enable it to STOP cutting existing programs and PROVIDE FULL FUNDING to all existing programs as well as any new programs that may be required to ensure the effective protection and management of Ontario’s natural resources.

The MNR is often the omly voice for rivers, lakes, wetlands, forests, and their significant roles. Pleae increase funding for the MNR and Conservation Authorities. We need well informed, capable people speaking for the environment!
156	Allan	Woodhouse	Our environment should be at the forefront of many issues - it affects social values, economics, and health care, to name a few. It is with the help of the OMNR that many of our urban populants are exposed to our natural world - through camping and NHE programs. With the publics decline in the knowledge of our natural systems we are becoming too disjunct from the ecology of the regions that ARE remaining. Please provide the necessary funding to ensure our health, economy, and social values are able to make gains. Thank you for your time, AW
157	J Fraser	Gibson	Our resources require protection. We have learned that self regulation is not effective and now we are moving toward no one to enforce existing regulations. With growing pressure on the flora and fauna of natural areas, we need more protection not less! The MNR requires more funding to do the job we expect of them!
