PETITION

TO The Legislative Assembly of Ontario:

WHEREAS the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) plays a vital role in the protection and management of the natural resources that belong to all Ontarians;

AND WHEREAS the MNR budget for 2006-07 was 18 per cent less, in real terms, than it was in 1992-93;

AND WHEREAS vital programs relating to fish and wildlife, provincial parks, forestry, and other MNR activities continue to be cut back;

AND WHEREAS the aesthetic, economic, educational, environmental, recreational, and social value of our natural resources far exceeds the cost of protecting and managing them;

AND WHEREAS the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario has made it clear in his April 2007 report that the MNR does not have the capacity to do all the work that Ontarians expect it to do;

WE the undersigned petition The Legislative Assembly of Ontario as follows:

THAT funding of the Ministry Natural Resources be increased to a level that will enable it to STOP cutting existing programs and PROVIDE FULL FUNDING to all existing programs as well as any new programs that may be required to ensure the effective protection and management of Ontario’s natural resources.

SimonBuchanit has to happen. i did the ranger program and it must stay amongst everything ells. CANADA WOULDN'T BE THE SAME..

TonyPowerI think whats happened to the MNR in this province is a disgrace, It time for a change of government.
AnitaPayneAfter recently accepting the recommendations from Roberta Bondar's working group on environmental education, it is shocking that the ON government continues to underfund provincial parks. These parks belong to all Ontarians and should not be transferred to a municipality on the whim of the present day government. People need places to connect with nature and nature needs places where it is relatively undisturbed.
MadelaineChristIt's awful that MNR staff can't do their jobs with all the cutbacks.
KaitlynFerreni really hope this goes through my dad is a co and i have seen first hand what budget cuts are doing and its a shame!!
GordMcNaughtonAs we as a society become contientious of our impact on the environment, we here in Ontario need to reassert the basics of natural resource stewardship and enforcement of natural resource laws. The MNR is vital to this commonsense function.
AnonymousAnonymousIn the 4 years since we moved to the shores of Sturgeon Lake, we have seen a decline in the water quality, fish population, and a dramatic increase in seaweed/algae. We also see blatant disregard for fishing laws. Especially we have seen non english speaking people pull up within 5 feet of our dock and up to ten people fishing from a pontoon boat, and throwing every fish they catch, regardless of species, size in season or not, and toss them into a big container. When we try to talk with them, they just laugh & pretend they don't understand. We have called MNR H>Q> in nearby Peterborough, but they are closed on the weekend, and they tell us on weekdays that they are not staffed to check. The OPP will, when they have the time, swing by, but as one officer said, they only check for life jacquet ccompliance & fishing licenses. The word is obviously getting around theat there is little chance of repercussions, because there is almost no r estaint required. Fishing & water quality are important tourism ( economic engine ) factors to the incomes of lodges/marinas/restaurants/& retailers. Does the "Government in Toronto know or care.....it does not seem so
BertZonneveldFor a lot of people even camping is becoming too expensive. More taxes, less services! Where is all our money going???
JoElinEyeWe must continue to hammer and press the government to provide the MNR budget with more $$ to allow the enforcement officer to do their jobs effectively, in order to KEEP ONTARIO BEAUTIFUL as we have all known Ontario to be and be very PROUD of Ontario once again....
LawrenceRooneyClimate change and the environment are the # 1 issues facing humanity over the next 30 years. An effective MNR is absolutely necessary to the future sustainability of Ontrio
AnonymousAnonymousOntario's natural resources need to be protected, under the stewardship and leadership of good government. Let's step it up Ontario - model the way to sustainability!
scotthinesWithout the mnr the badguys win again.
terryhickeyHi there. I have a 2 year old girl. I, we, need the MNR to manage and protect our natural resources. Please, for my daughter and everyone's daughter and sons, save and provide full funding for the MNR. Your's sincerely, Terry Hickey
KathrynGalanWe need the natural world, and all that it offers. We need to responsibly use and protect Ontario's natural resources.
BrandonMcDonaldMcGuinty needs to get a life.. he says in the Ontario out of doors mag on page 35 that the fish and wildlife budget: maintains MNR moving in the right direction! what a fuckin idiot..he obviously dont fish or hunt or do anything in the outdoors..
MattUsherIf your going to cut anything,, cut McGuinty,, not MNR budget!
AnonymousAnonymousMNR is more important than anything else! Because if we have no natural resources, what do we have?
LarryToneSave the MNR!!!!!!!!
MartinPancirovTruely a shame. Ontario constantly promotes its natural resources as one of its big selling points. Without MNR and its services, what would Ontario be like in the near future? Preserve what is truly good about Ontario.
AnonymousAnonymousWe definitely need these people
BenjaminHughesUnbelievable, that today of all times in history, when the environment needs protection and management more than ever. This is the Canadian way of late....no time to protect, got to move FORWARD....disgusting!
DougGustarWhere would we be without them
AnnLamarcheIt is imperative that the MNR keep functioning in all parts of Canada, not just Ontario. Funding must be increased and MNR iniatives must be supported in order for this province's and this country's resources remain manageable by being managed.
AnonymousAnonymousThe MNR are needed more than ever in this day and age. We all need and have to help in some way. please sign .
AnonymousAnonymousi like my job with the MNR!!
AlexisWenzowski.
AntonioCrispinoWatching the doors close at the MNR District office in Sioux Lookout was terrible.
ElizabethLeggeIf one of the richest provinces cannot protect its resources during this environmental crisis, there won't be much of a province for much longer.
GeorgeMeanwellI endorse this petition.
AndyMcClellanWe sure need a much stronger Resources Management presence..!!
DouglasHeggartFor the past 3 decades I have have dealings with MNR in SSM and BR and have seen the deteriation in service and fustration in staff
AnonymousAnonymousThe Natural Resources and enforcment officers are important to the sustanibility of Ontario's wildlife population and to collect important satistical information. Without them we have no future for our resources. It is clear that Canada's suvivability is dependent on Canada's resources. Please keep our future alive and keep our MNR.
AnonymousAnonymousAs an avid fisherwoman and outdoorswoman, I am changing careers and have decided to persue a career as a Conservation Officer. Obviously, these cuts cannot continue, in fact they need to increase. Policies, and legislations are of no use if there is nobody to enforce them. Who will be the voice of those who cannot speak for themselves? Who will help prolong, preserve and protect our Natural Resources?
SabrinaDe GirolamoGreat Work!
JohnSedgwickLet get the funds back to where they need to be. More funds for more CO, so they can do their the right way. People who are doing thing the wrong way are not doing them from 9-5 through the day, they are doing it at night,weekends etc.
PaulKroisenbrunnerPlease, stop these cuts to the Natural Resources.
AricStonerThis is what happens when you don't put an expert in fish & wildlife in charge of the MNR. Lets move for change in pollicy that mandates only Experts in the respected ministries can be appointed to run each ministry. We don't hire school teachers or bankers to be Conservation Officers, so why are we appointing Education and Financial experts to run the MNR? Just doesn't make any sense at all!
TerryCronkwrightWould love for my children, and hopefully future grandchildren to be able to enjoy the outdoors and natural resources that we as Ontarians are lucky to have.
GlenPickeringLack of funding to the MNR is hurting our resourses.
ronnestorowichPlease provide more funding to protect and manage our resourses
JosephTraccittoMNR needs more funding!
AnonymousAnonymousIf the MnR goes, what we have now will be gone.
FrankRamsayOur Natural resources need the CO's to ensure that there are resources available for future genrations. Time to pony up for all the years of under funding Mr Premier
DrewAtamanukenough is enough
AnonymousAnonymousIt's time to put funds back into the management of our outdoors, and also stiffer fines for those that break the rules
DennisStaley JrGovernment should be supporting MNR......not destroying it
DavidScarrI would like to know where the money generated by the selling of licenses goes
DaveSpenceWher does the money go that we pay for the license.
