PETITION

TO The Legislative Assembly of Ontario:

WHEREAS the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) plays a vital role in the protection and management of the natural resources that belong to all Ontarians;

AND WHEREAS the MNR budget for 2006-07 was 18 per cent less, in real terms, than it was in 1992-93;

AND WHEREAS vital programs relating to fish and wildlife, provincial parks, forestry, and other MNR activities continue to be cut back;

AND WHEREAS the aesthetic, economic, educational, environmental, recreational, and social value of our natural resources far exceeds the cost of protecting and managing them;

AND WHEREAS the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario has made it clear in his April 2007 report that the MNR does not have the capacity to do all the work that Ontarians expect it to do;

WE the undersigned petition The Legislative Assembly of Ontario as follows:

THAT funding of the Ministry Natural Resources be increased to a level that will enable it to STOP cutting existing programs and PROVIDE FULL FUNDING to all existing programs as well as any new programs that may be required to ensure the effective protection and management of Ontario’s natural resources.

102 SteveFrangosIf actions aren't taken soon and fast, we will continue to hand over all that WE have built thus far. I am growing increasingly agitated.
103 JasonBarberMy mother used to work in the Fire Attack of the MNR, but new government thought it wasn't an essential service....so yeah I'll sing
104 AnonymousAnonymousLets protect more for our future generations!
105 StephenShattockWhat are we paying for licencing fees for if they are not 100% put directly back into MNR?
106 DaveKurylowe need these guys
107 TylerWenzllets do it
108 ChristinaRossiThe protection and management of the natural resources is a major priority for our future and needs to be supported.
109 AnonymousAnonymousdoing my part.

111 SuzanneVanExanClient sof MNR are not finding complete services at ServiceOntario and can not easily access MNR offices or phones.
112 ChristopherWaslykWe need funds to protect our resources!
113 RyanFielderOnce it is gone, it is gone...so provide the tools necessary to protect it!
114 LarryMatchukIf we continue down this path of indifference what kind of legacy do we leave for future generations?
115 RobinPattulloI live in eastern Ontario.There has been incidents of asian fishermen being chucked in the lake,some say racist motivated that may be, but I have seen bass, pike pickerel taken out of season & over limit, but there is no enforcement due to staff shortage in MNR This hurts all Ontario residents.Keep on fighting R Pattullo
116 AnonymousAnonymousStaffing cuts to MNR have been downright ridiculous ever since Mike Harris was in office.
117 JocelynTormaOntario is quickly becoming one of the only places on the planet where such an abundance of natural wilderness exists. By funding its protection, you may be ensuring the sucess of the eco-tourism industry in future years. THIS IS A GOOD GOVERNMENT INVESTMENT! Spend a few dollars now to make a few once other wildernesses dwindle away for lack of funding.
118 DineshKrishnakumaranSave the MNR! Increase their budget!
119 AnneYagiYes We are an endangered species
120 LauraMoffattSAVE THE MNR!!!!
121 MichaelGyemiI have spent much time dealing with the MNR's private replacement at the various Provincial Parks I visist every year and I can tell you they are really mis-informed and really bad. They cater to their friends and relatives and it is very bad. Most don't even put back any real money into the parks to improve them. Many are run down and very badly managed. It is very clear that the MNR people have done a superior job over the years and my question is where are all those students in the forestry programs now going to get jobs at. Without the MNR it is only the private interest groups that will benefit and as with other agencies that this has happened to will increase the costs to everyone, especially the consumer. Shame1!!!!
122 Ken Two DogsfraserHi just to let you know I am a metis councilar for region 7 and I think we should support the M.N.R. because without them and the hard work they do even if its not as mutch as before do to cyt backs we would not have what we have today Two Dogs
123 MariuszLyczekFully agree with the petition.
124 AnonymousAnonymousMNR needs more money so current staff don't burn out before retirement. It is very difficult watching natural resources decline in the hands of private industry and municipalities.
125 AnonymousAnonymousThe MNR is an important part of wildlife conservation.
126 TylerPerrottconnservation officers need more money for gas in thier trucks to patrol
127 SylviaReddomPlease answer the plea of these dedicated workers who represent not only the past and present inhabitants (Human and Animal and Resources) but those of our futures - let us make sure we have one -for all Ontarians.
128 DougLennoxAgree totally that the MNR should be funded adequately
