On November 15, 2010 the Village Board of the Village of Lewiston, without holding a public hearing, approved the sale of public land located at the foot of Center Street to a private company, Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours for $1.00. Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours is also seeking a permit from the Village of Lewiston to build a 2,400 square foot building on this property and other property owned by the Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours, which will create a large permanent obstruction of the view of the Niagara Lower River. Elected officials of the Village of Lewiston have no obligation to protect the ownership of the public lands in this unique and environmentally sensitive area and to protect the Niagara River riverfront from overdevelopment. We, the undersigned, find the actions of the elected officials who approved this gift of public land to a private business to be an abdication of their duty and strongly oppose the request of the Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours to develop any building which obstructs the view of the Niagara River.
