How can the City Council opt for a hotel developer against a service that promotes our humanity Libraries promote education, enlightened citizenship, and elevation on who we are as human beings. City Council, get your priorities in order. Drop the hotel developer now.Flag

I know most people would vote to keep the library open. Cut cost in some other way and be more careful of how you budget in future. The many will pay for the failure of a few.Flag

Name: Belinda Aguinaga on Dec 6, 2008Comments: As an educator, I think it is aweful that we put money before education. We have experienced drastic cuts at the school district level and now we are being told that our community cannot afford a library. When does it stop! Please understand that many of students and their families cannot afford books, computers or tutors to help them. The libraries offer this and more. Their educated staff members are the middle men of education because they help students in doing research. Our schools have already cut back on library staff and library hours; now where will students go...perhaps to a nice hotel they cannot afford. Please reconsider your decision from the educational stand point. Our schools are beyond strapped for funds and already made libraries the last priority. Educators need a another viable resource to help our students and our public libraries are it. Sincerely, Belinda AguinagaFlag

Make it a priority for it to be a safe haven in times of stress and difficulty for so many. every library in this county makes the entire county a better place to work and live and play.Flag

Name: Judson Wesley Parker II on Dec 8, 2008Comments: I teach at SPHS, and the thought of a library closure is offensive in comparison to the construction of another hotel. Revenue is important, but education is too. There must be some way that the city government can keep the library open to serve the needs of the community, since many students actually use it to learn. It would be shameful to aid business and not education and literacy. The libraries serve kids in so many ways. As a teacher and community resident since 1972, I strongly urge you to find a way to maintain the branch library on East Valley Parkway. By doing so, you will show the people of the city what your real priorities are concerning the well being of our fine city. I know that education is paramount for many of you who make these decisions, so make a decision that you can be proud of that makes our community better and stronger, not just wealthier, which does not benefit nearly as many people as a library. Thank you in advance for your attention to this critically important matter.Flag
