Name: Margo Vela on Jul 21, 2004State: TNCountry: USComments: I have been able to take advantage of the opportunities available when a library is closer to where you live. Over the years I have seen people of all ages, income levels, ethnic groups, educational levels, etc. while at O/C library. There is nothing else in this end of the county. To go to the other branches can be a trip of about an hour or so depending on traffic and construction. Even if it would be necessary to reduce hours and possibly close it one additional day, at least it would be here and open. The staff that work at O/C are fantastic people. They care about helping the various patrons with whatever information is being inquired about. My second grader always looks forward to going to the library every week. I have always felt safe taking my child there. I cannot say that about the three other locations that I went to in the early 80's with my eldest daughter. PLEASE KEEP THE O/C LIBRARY OPEN!!!!Flag

Name: Lorraine Webber on Jul 22, 2004State: TNCountry: USComments: This one of the fastest growing areas in Hamilton County. It makes absolutely NO sense that this library is being closed, except for politics. I strongly believe that closing the library is a big mistake. It's here - let it stay. Our tax dollars will only be used again down the line to BUILD another library.Flag

Name: Mary Bonine on Jul 25, 2004State: TNCountry: USComments: Please help our community save our library. I would have gladly supported a property tax increase with exemptions for those over 65. My husband and I are in our mid-thirties, and would have gladly payed a bit more in property tax to avoid cutting the library's budget and eliminating bus service for schools. But at this time, I simply ask you to save our library. Without the Ooltewah/Collegedale branch, my daughter and I will not be able to visit the downtown library before closing, so it will effectively leave us with no library. This makes me sad for my daughter -- sad enough that, like many other library patrons and parents I have talked to, my husband and I are trying to find other areas in the country to move to. Please keep our library open. If nothing else, we can still take our children there to learn. Sincerely, Mary Bonine District 9 residentFlag
