I can't imagine not having a place for my children to check out books and be excited about reading.Flag

Name: Erika Walker on Jul 15, 2004State: TNCountry: USComments: If cuts must be made lets not make them at the cost of our children. It is bad enough what is happening to the public school system with all the budget cuts, please don't let this seep into the public library system, which is a wonderful source of education & entertainment for both children & adults. A public library is vital to a well-educated community, and what better past-time than to read a book. Instill this in our youth at an early age and they will educate themselves above and beyond what is required in school. I spent a lot of time at the public library during my elementary school years and I believe it helped make me the person I am today & helped keep me out of trouble & expermenting with other types of entertainment which are detrimental to our youth as well as society as a whole. Please don't close the library, there has to be another solution if everyone will take another look. Please find the silver lining in this sad cloud. Thank you.Flag

Name: David Kissick on Jul 15, 2004State: TNCountry: USComments: The library is a very valuble learning center to the community. This branch is the closest to a large population of people and would hurt the community to lose it. Closing the branch just supports the falling education standards in Tennessee. Please don't let this happen. Keep the library open.Flag

Name: Robert Dennis on Jul 15, 2004State: TNCountry: USComments: I am not a resident of Hamilton county, I live in Bradley county in the community of Mc Donald but I am a patron of the Hamilton County Bicentennial Library, namely the Ooltewah-Collegedale branch. I get several books from here each month, especially recorded books because I am a truckdriver and I can listen to them on the road and also my wife is legally blind and a cancer patient and she enjoys listening to the recorded books at home and when she is taking her treatments. I do not usually go to the Eastgate or the downtown branches because they are out of the way for me. Ooltewah-Collegedale is not out of the way for me. This branch provides me and my family with a usefull service and I appreciate the helpfullness of all of the employees. There is one thing that I do have a problem with though. Why is it that you, being the members of the county commission can not come up with the funds in the county budget for something usefull but you can always seem to find just enough funds for an occassional pay raise that seems to serve no usefull purpose except to rile up the voters who put you there. If you run in an election for a job that is extremelly "part-time", have you not "volunteered" for that position Look in the dictionary, "volunteer" means to do a job or task for little or no compensation. Now I know that most of you from listening to on TalkRadio 102.3 are not strapped for cash, being as most of you own your own business or are a part of some sucsessfull businesses and that you drive pretty good cars and live in modest houses but you must remember that most of your voters do not. This fact may come back to bite you on the backside in the next election. Please reconsider your position on the library issue of the budget. Your children and grand-children who may be leading this county or this country may thank you for it as will a goodly precentage of the voters in your districts. Thank you, Robert DennisFlag

Name: Stephanie Mahlo on Jul 15, 2004State: TNCountry: USComments: We just moved here from Nebraska and the Collegedale library has been such an good for thing for myself and our three girls. I've been able to meet other moms at the story time and my children ask every week if they can go to storytime. We visit it on a regular basis also when we go for walks on the Greeway. Please don't close such a vital part of my families life here in our new home of Tennessee!!! Meeting new friends at the library has helped with the adjustment of moving across country.Flag

Name: Nicole Flory on Jul 15, 2004State: TNCountry: USComments: I am a new homeschool mom. I was very upset when I heard of the potential closing of the Ooltewah library. My children use the library for several reasons, one being the Adventure Club!!! They look forward to it every week. I feel that Ooltewah/Collegedale should have access to a public library in their area and ask you to please allow it to remain open! I live in the Harrison area and find it much easier to drive there to that location than to Hixson and I choose it over the downtown location because I have three small children (one being a baby) and I can never find parking downtown!(That's safe or close anyways.)Flag

I certainly would not like to see this little library closed.Flag
