Name: Eileen Curry on Aug 19, 2007Comments: Kilburn State is a wonderful building and landmark . It sits on Kiilburn High Road like a jewel. The thought of it disappearing fills me and other Londoners with horror. Surely we have enough blocks of flats and only one Kilburn State. I always imagined it would have a Preservation Order or similar on it - it it hasn't it certainly should have. Someone must step in and save it - millions were wasted on the dreadful Dome and other eyesores so use some public money to save this wonderful historic building and turn it into a cultural centre as planned . We must keep some character in our Capital City .Flag

Name: Ken Roe on Aug 19, 2007Comments: The Gaumont State Theatre building should be retained as an entertainment venue to serve the north of London.. While it is in a 'closed' state, it must be guarded and made secure, so that it is protected from vandals. This is a Grade II* Listed building and the owners should be aware of the historic heritage of the the building and its value to the local community and to the city of LondonFlag

Name: Donald MacKenzie on Aug 21, 2007Comments: This building is one of a kind in the UK. In my opinion, the only other two cinemas - similar to the State, have either been altered beyond original recognition (Empire Leicester Square) or demolished (Trocadero Elephant & Castle). The State should be preserved at all costs.Flag

Name: Cllr Anthony Dunn on Aug 23, 2007Comments: Hosting one of, if not the largest Wurlitzer organ in the UK, the Kilburn State is a rare architectural gem in the area. There is no way that the local authority is about to accede to any request to change the planning designation of the Kilburn State, accept any attempt to revoke its Grade II* listed status or allow it to be demolished to make way for more housing. Any potential purchaser should be fully aware of this. Why not use the place for the purpose for which it was built: entertainment.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Aug 24, 2007Comments: It is vital that we prevent the continuing loss of public amenity in North London and its replacement by flats. Yes, people needs places to live but they also need amenties to enable them to do something once they live there. We must not continue to lose public amenities such as the Empire.Flag

Name: Cllr Mary Arnold on Aug 24, 2007Comments: We must make sure that the Kilburn people's aspirations for the Mecca State are achieved and that the old State cinema is brought back into use giving access for people in the community. Brent Council has defined the building for entertainment and leisure, an opportunity to regain the cultural leading edge for performance and local skills together with fine architecture in the High Rd.Flag

Name: Laurence Fryer on Aug 26, 2007Comments: I have had many happy nights at the State seeing Steve Wonder amongst many fine acts there. Venues often have rough patches but as a public amenity they are critical to the continucance of a local community, without them an area becomes just another district with loss of sales to the local businesses.Flag

Name: Cllr James King on Aug 31, 2007Comments: As a ward councillor for Kilburn (on the Camden side) I add my support to the Save The Kilburn State campaign. It is an iconic building on the High Road and a real treasure inside. The new owners must listen to the local community and look for creative ways to restore The State as a cultural centre for Kilburn.Flag

Name: Peter Hammond on Sep 2, 2007Comments: This is an outstanding architectural building of huge importance and an absolute classic gem in heritage terms. It would make a superb performance venue for the area and could be Kilburns answer to the Hammersmith Apollo, which despite being almost as large is very successful. The Gaumont State MUST be saved, preserved and used as an arts or performance venue!Flag

Name: Tim Addyman on Sep 3, 2007Comments: This is an icon of cinema architecture and deserves to be preserved in its entirety. Developers have no right to destroy important pieces of high street heritage, such as movie palaces of yesteryear and every effort needs to be made to save it. I back this petition 100%.Flag
