Name: Garland C. Ogden on Oct 6, 2009Comments: I w ish to express great concern as to the fate of the Deutsches Haus. No one has explained or bothered to tell the pubic what the plans are for this establishment. The Germans of New Orleans have made fine contributions to this fair City, and i would hate for yet another Old Land Mark be destroyed by political correctness, or people with agendas! Please make every effort to preserve this place, as it is a reflection of what makes New Orleans so great; the mixture of truly international scale!US State: LAZIP code: 70005Flag

Are they just going to mowe down every historic building in their wake Why not build closer to charity where they were. They are using up too much of our precious midcity.US State: LAZIP code:Flag

Name: Thomas Hofer on Nov 3, 2009Comments: This is the fourth or fifth time I am signing this petition. And as I do so, I am very upset that the leadership of the Deutsches Haus did not team up with the Committee to Re-open Charity Hospital so as to empower that committee even more so. That is simply intolerable. As I also stated in my book ONE YEAR - AND BEYOND (now published and available for purchase), the Deutsches Haus is a part of New Orleans history and should remain where it is. I simply cannot fathom its wanton destruction. I would be glad to assist the Deutsches Haus with contacts with the Committee to reopen Charity Hospital. The time to act is NOW!!US State: LAZIP code: 70380Flag

Name: Thomas Hofer on Nov 14, 2009Comments: I am not happy with the fact that meetings are being held to possibly select another location for the Deutsches Haus. I again sing the petition to preserve the Haus in its current location, and again encourage the Haus staff to team up with the Committee to Re-Open Charity Hospital. Please contact me at my phone number given for further details. The fusion between the Deutsches Haus and the Charity Hospital Committee should have taken place a long time ago.US State: LAZIP code: 70380Flag

Name: H R Curson on Jan 24, 2010Comments: I live in Indianapolis, Indiana and my son currently lives in Slidell, La, Duriring the Christmas Holidays we visited the Deutsches Haus and was welcomed enthusiastically. I beleive the "Haus" should be preserved, as it is part of German - New Orleans culture, and heritage and it would not be the same if it were forced to relocate. There is no reason why it can not be part of the hospital plan. I am a member of the German American Klub here in Indianapolis, and know what it means to have a facility such as the Deutsches Haus to be available for all.US State: IndianaZIP code: 46240Flag

As a former miliary brat (and I am not alone here) who lived in Germany for a few years and enjoyed its rich cultural, I hope you will help preserve this New Orleans tradition.US State: LouisianaZIP code: 70065Flag

Name: Thomas Hofer on May 22, 2010Comments: I signed the Save The Haus petition several times - was that for nothing? You all made a super mistake in believing that LSU would somehow respect the site of the Deutsches Haus, a historic monument since 1928 when it was built. Now it turns out you are sadly mistaken, as can be seen by the farewell occasions. I had spoken to you all several times about the Committee to Reopen Charity Hospital, as that committee also is working on saving lower Mid-City, and had mentioned the Deutsches Haus as one historic site that needed be saved. You all ignored that - and now we have the result: a historic site that people have enjoyed for years and years is now being demolished. Let me call to your attention that the proposed LSU/VA hospital deal is by no means done, and that the Committee to Reopen Charity is still actively fighting it. The possibility exists, especially since the project is too costly, and given the poor fiancial condition fo the state, that the whole hospital project may well fall through (which I hope it does). Then a historic site within New Orleans will be lost due to your negligence in handling this situation. Shame on all of you!!US State: LouisianaZIP code: 70380Flag

Name: Thomas Hofer on Sep 1, 2010Comments: I maintain the the Deutsches Haus should not be torn down from its present location. It is a historic site within New Orleans, having been built in 1928 and opened that year. Also, The LSU/VA project is not a done deal, and is still being contested. I suggest you keep your ears and eyes open!!US State: LouisianaZIP code: 70380Flag

Name: Carol Wiewiorowski on Jan 29, 2011Comments: This is my 2nd time signing the petition. It saddens me to think that this historic gem may be demolished. My father-in-law's family came from Poland and Germany, so they always enjoyed the German food at the Haus with us. There was a warm family atmospere at the Haus, and our children benefited from their introduction to German culture. I cannot believe that any government official in New Orleans would even consider tearing down the Deutsches Haus. It is such a special place for so many in our city who have already been through too much.US State: LouisianaZIP code: 70131Flag
