Name: Julie Maloney on Mar 28, 2011Comments: I was a swimmer myself from the age of 4 till college summer and winter- swam at wykagyl CC in summer and the YMCA and then New Rochelle HS varsity swim team from 7th grade till graduation in the winter. Swimming gave me great confidence, a great sense of team spirit, along with individual accomplishments. It would be a sin to take away swimming from the Pelham Girls.Flag

Name: Suhair Vermes on Mar 28, 2011Comments: That sounds like a pure discrimination. How come they don't cut budget on boys teams, like baseball or basketball. If they want to cut girls team, they should cut boys team as well. The excuse will be that there is no swimming boys team, well if there was we have lots of talented boys who are swimmers. What will these girls do if this was their only sport? What are the alternatives. Other slight reductions can be made, especially for those who are overpaid and do minimal jobs. Why is it always that our kids have to pay the price. Enough is enough.Flag

Name: Bob Payne on Mar 28, 2011Comments: My wife, Sally Kilbridge, and I are the parents of Cleo Payne, a 6th grader at the middle school. Since kindergarten, Cleo has tried virtually every sport Pelham has to offer, and failed miserably at them until she discovered swimming. Swimming with the New York Athletic Club, and with the New Rochelle YMCA, it is the one sport that has allowed her to build a sense of physical self esteem and self confidence, which culminated this year in her qualifying for the YMCA state championships. With great excitement and anticipation, she has been looking forward to the opportunity to use her swimming skills to become part of the Pelham High School athletic community. By eliminating the girls swim team you may save a little money but you will also destroy the self esteem of at least one of Pelham/s students.Flag

Name: Edmond J. Pryor on Mar 28, 2011Comments: (1) Gender based discrimination? The School Board should be very concerned. (2) Like hockey, perhaps parents can contribute to the cost of swimming? (3) It would be great if Nita Lowey and Amy Paulin could help.Flag

Name: Toni Biaggi on Mar 29, 2011Comments: My two daughters attended Pelham Memorial High School and were part of several varsity sports teams. These activities are the most meaningful experiences for all our children, as it builds character, stesses teamwork and provides a safe environment which contributes to healthier lifestyle choices. I strongly encourage the school board to look more closely at alternate ways the budget can be reduced without the negative impact of cuts that directly affect our children.Flag

Name: Karen H. Lambdin on Mar 29, 2011Comments: My children don't swim, but I support the girl's swimming team. I would be similary upset to see any sporting program cut from the program. Please keep the girl's swimming team. I would be happy to make a $100.00 donation to help keep the program, if that helps. Thank you.Flag
