Name: Kathleen Veteri on Mar 28, 2011Comments: I completely support his petition. It is a travesty to cut a varsity swim team from our high school. With all the press on keeping our kids fit & active, how can you deny them this opportunity to participate in a life long sport and also the benefits of belonging to a team in their high school. And why single out the girls' swim team? I think this is completely unacceptable.Flag

Name: Jennifer Upton on Mar 28, 2011Comments: Swimming is an activity that is for life. Many of the other sports are programs that children participate in and then when the teams are disbanded the sport is forsaken. If we really want to promote healthy lifestyles sports that promote a lifelong healthy activity should be singled out for promotion, not elimination.Flag

Name: Tim Guba on Mar 28, 2011Comments: What a concept, cut a program that in the past 10 years which has given girls the opportunity to letter in a Varsity sport, gain confidence and self esteem in addition to represent PMHS in the section and state championships. Yes there is an ecomonic cost to swimming that makes it difficult to defend. How hard has our AD looked to combine the team with others in surrounding communities like other districts have done? I truly believe that the committment from the athletic department in the past years has doomed this program. It was 5 years ago we had an excellent coach, 30 girls on the team, and a Conference Championship! We lost the coach and teacher who grew the program by coaching at the NYAC and the program has never been the same. There is a way to save this program but a petition isn't going to do it. Parents of swimmers must unite and come up with a viable solution to save money. Cut a coaching position, provide transporation to practice facility and combine with another school and possibly pay to play like hockey.Flag

Being involved in sports during school years is so important to forming lifelong skills that often sets these students apart. I know you've got your work cut out for you, & I trust you'll find a way to save this program. The students really need you to step up for them on this one. You're our heroes for doing this, & you'll never regret it! thx!Flag
