Name: Helen OConnell on Mar 27, 2011Comments: My neice has worked so hard over the last 5 years to be a valued member of the swim team, her high school and the Pelham community. Since she was 3 years old she was a swimmer - I can't imagine her world without it! We all have to make tough choices when cutting our budgets to make up for shortfalls in our jobs but I ask the School Board to re-exam their numbers. Thank you!Flag

Name: Kathryn Tracy on Mar 27, 2011Comments: The PMHS Girls Varsity Swim Team was one of the best things that I participated in during my high school career. I was on the team from 8th grade until my senior year when I was captain. The numbers on the team fluctuated throughout the years, but the team has always been very successful. For a sport that can be focused so much on the individual this team has always managed to be a close family of girls that worked well together and supported each other. Over the years we have also been very successful for our size, and have managed to make proud the Pelham athletic tradition and send on some of our swimmers to prestigous college programs. It would be a shame to allow this team to be disbanded.Flag

Name: Lauren Fogarty on Mar 27, 2011Comments: My daughter, Kathryn Fogarty (PMHS 2010) was on the girls' varsity swim team beginning in 8th grade. It was a wonderful experience for her. Eliminating this program will make it impossible for many girls to have the benefit and the experience of participating in a sport at the varsity level. Please do not deprive them of this chance.Flag

Name: Kristin S. Bischof on Mar 27, 2011Comments: I am writing to express my concern and disappointment at hearing that the Varsity Girls Swim Team will possibly be cut in next year’s budget. While I do not have a child who is currently on the swim team, I do have a 9 year old fourth grader at Colonial who swims 5+ hours a week for the New Rochelle YMCA Sailfish team. I know that she hopes to one day swim for her high school team. I understand the additional expenses of a swim team at a school that doesn’t have a pool, however this situation is not unique to swimming. There are other sports that also need to rent practice space (hockey, golf for example). It seems unfair that one single team is being singled out. Although I understand that most of the swimmers also compete for club teams, the camaraderie, friendships and pride that are associated with representing your town and school cannot be matched. It saddens me that one day I will have to tell her that after years of practice and countless hours in the pool that she won’t have the opportunity to represent her school, although girls in neighboring towns (New Rochelle, Rye, Mamaroneck) do.Flag

Name: Leanne Needham on Mar 28, 2011Comments: Swimming is one of the fastest growing sports especially for woman. Don't cut this important program. I would be willing to bet most, if not all, of your varsity swimmers are scholar athletes! This is because the discipline they need for the pool translates to academics! It would be unwise to cut this program.Flag
