The proposed actions of the School Board to single out one sport, the girls varsity swim team to be cut and eliminated when no other varsity sport is being proposed to be cut, is “pitting” one team against another.
The girl’s varsity swim team has sent a swimmer to the Section 1 State Qualifier team and to the New York State Swim Championships for the last 5 years. There are currently 12 swimmers on our varsity team; we are 12 tax paying girls & our families do we not count?
We know funds are tight, but why are specific programs singled out and cut? How does this profess solidarity and support for all programs? Why is soccer, tennis, track, football, volleyball, hockey or baseball more important than swimming?
Join us in asking the School Board to number crunch and review the budget again to see where slight reductions across all services would result in absorbing the shortfall verse shattering 12 girls from our varsity swim teams’ hopes and dreams.
Thank you for letting the Girls Varsity Swim Team know we count!
