Heather & Peter Penstone |
Alyssa | A very valuable resource to the community; I understand industrialization limits space scope; however it would be a true shame to sell this property
| 2704 | Alain BRUNO | Preserve the park and this beautiful observatory.
It is a very exceptionnal and historical obs.

Geoff Norris B.Sc.(biochem) | Cherish these sites - once gone, it is irreparable. As well, properly marketed, this could be BIG cash cow for the U.
Craig Walker |
Kathy | It is difficult to believe that destroying this would even be considered!!
Anonymous | how can anyone let this happen? We are turning into a concrete jungle.
| 2711 | Ian Frazer | Please re-consider your incredibly short-sited decision to close the facility.
There are so many reasons to keep it open & even expand programs instead of a few reasons that are summed up as "fast cash now". |
Anonymous | A short-sighted decisions that will be regretted quickly.
Eva Lee |
Fred Berktin | GREED and ARROGANCE, over greenspace, education, resource, landmark, history, community shows it's ugly head again. I am totally opposed to the sale of this amazing facility that the community is proud of.
Grace Zhao | This place was very pretty

Steve Shim | I'm absolutely positive the original donors who funded the observatory with the provision that it remain in it's current use in perptituity are turning over in their graves. The university's plan is an absolute travesty
Valentino Visentini | DDO protected land!
Kendall Donaldson | as a student I am appalled that this site is not going to be used for educational purposes. The history, the amazing things that have happened there. The memories. Why on earth would you take that away from the public? who are you to do such a thing? I pay enough in tuition to know how important this site is. I beg you, as someone who values the culture we have in Ontario. Do not close something so precious, so timeless.
Sasha Havlik |
Sharon Lind | WE THE UNDERSIGNED petition the University of Toronto to CANCEL THE SALE of the DDO; OR, for the Town of Richmond Hill to protect the entire property through a Heritage Landscape Designation; OR, for the lands to be purchased and protected by a public partnership using local, Provincial and Federal money.
Ria Brown |
Olvie Li |
Jan Church | In this day and age when too many green spaces are being gobbled up by housing and industry we must fight to the end to save the David Dunlop Observatory Park for Nature, the Environment and Future Generations.
John Armstrong | It's such a shame to see this go. This is a part of our Canadian scientific history. Completely depressing that the U of T is turning it for a profit.
Shawna P |
Michael Jensen | A national historical and cultural landmark like this should not be meerly thrown away. Recognize it's true value and act accordingly :)

Glenn Kelly | Every time I see an observatory go on the selling block, it absolutely sickens me. The same battle is being waged with University of Chicago and the Yerkes Observatory near where I live. I share in the feelings that many astronomers, amateur and professional alike, have for the hallowed observatories such as these and the work that has been acomplished by them. I certainly hope for the wealth of mankind, that resources such as DDO and Yerkes are turned over to competent and interested parties that will preserve and promote educational uses of facilities like this. Please open DDO up to our children and young researchers and keep Astronomy alive!

Rick Williston | As a worker in high technology I see all too well how little support science gets within Canada. Historically Canada has been a rare contributor to the advances in science so every opporunity must be taken to preserve historic landmarks such as the observatory. The last thing Toronto needs is more condos.
Simon Pelsmakher |
Marina | Save it. PLEASE
Anonymous | The thought of turning one of Richmond Hill's largest green spaces into yet more houses or stores is appalling. As a life-long RHill resident I know first hand that the Observatory has always been a landmark and home to deer, foxes, coyotes, and more wildlife. These aforementioned will have no other place to go in the surrounding areas if the DDO land is developed.
Anonymous | hmmm,,,,you shouldnt.

Anonymous | This should be designated a heritage property and kept for educational/archival purposes for future generations. The surrounding land should be preserved in its natural state.
Anonymous | We need greenspace in order to stop the expansion of our suburban sprawl as well as to help filter the air cause by said spawl, responsible development should be something a University would be proud to sponsor.
