Name: Dave Alexander on Aug 18, 2007Comments: Dumping the granite on the little amount of arable land Singapore still has is a display of lack of prudence on the government part. True, Singapore is a pragmatist country but should it go to the point where economical purposes override all ethics, including environmental ethic This shameful decision, if executed, will speak of what kind of country Singapore is and will be a regrettable one.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Aug 18, 2007Comments: How precious our little countryside is to all in SIngapore. To folks of 20+ upwards, it serves as a place where we would go for memories and an alternative breathing space to resorts or shopping, and more healthy indeed! To our next generation, they get to have a taste of basic life and learn about real things, not just from the books. things that books can't teach. With a smaller child birth rate, these precious kids grow up in a protective environment that they will not get to have a taste of countryside if it's gone because of the countryside environment is hurt.Flag

Name: LEE Ronnie on Aug 18, 2007Comments: Please leave our countryside alone, if not we will have no more countryside of our own. We will have to travel overseas to see them. Why spent our money overseas when we can spent it right here in Singapore. If we go ahead to turn our countryside to a granite stockplie site, years later we will realise that we have made a big mistake. This had happen many times in Singapore. We don't have to go through this again and again. The folks who are making the decision, PLEASE THINK long-term for our nature future ...Flag

A measure of ambiguity on what the authorities say (e.g., Green Earth, Al Gore - how Singapore wants to be seen to care for the environment) and what's actually happening on the ground.Flag

Name: Philip Teh on Aug 18, 2007Comments: Please keep Singapore green ! We have enough of concrete jungles already. Why are we stockpliing granite Because we need to build a city for 6.5 million people ! Frankly in Singapore, we don't need a population of 6.5 million people, who will live in concrete boxes, drive more cars around the island, and will pollute the skies. Imaginge the traffic congestion ! More people will throw their garbage, we will have more garbage bags and fast food wrappers. Besides the granite stock pile, we will also need to create more garbage dumps. Will these also be at Lim Chu KangFlag

I recently brought friends who came with their family and friends from China to visit several farms. They were very impressed at the efforts that the farmers have put into their farms and their children thoroughly enjoyed themselves......it's a very different holiday from what they expected!!Flag

Name: Anonymous on Aug 19, 2007Comments: I have been to that countryside and found it a beautiful place. As a student, it was so enriching to visit farms in Singapore. I discovered how beautiful nature really is, and how we should treasure it. There are lots of organic farms in that area too. I know many people who purchase valued organic food from such areas. Its a shame that this has been done. I wanted to bring my family there.Flag
