Name: Maria Aguilar on Jun 24, 2003State: TXComments: When my daughter told me about the changes in Lubbock I got upset. Ever since our daughter was very young she has always said she wanted to attend Texas Tech. Being blind I always thought it would be better for her to go to Austin and attend school since they would have everything she needed. She is a very independant person. When we looked for a place for her to live it was so fustrating to know that there is not many places in Lubbock that have close bus stops to the apartments. We had to settle for whatever was close to a bus stop. Now you say you want to cut Sat. service and who knows what else. For some people this is their Only way of transportation. How many people are you going to find out there who are willing to take a blind person with a guide dog to the store, to the Dr., or anywhere Who's going to have the time better yet find the time And we're not rich to hire someone to take her everywhere she needs to be.It's going to be sad if my daughter will have to move and go to a school she never wanted to go to just because there's nothing around for the "disabled" in Lubbock. Even thou she can't stand to be called"Disabled". The state has already voted to do away with Texas Commision for the Blind this is really outragious, do they want them to stand in the corner wearing dark shades and begging for money I don't think so. My daughter has always aimed high you have the whole town of Lampasas to tell you or anyone and she wants that degree from Tech. If things get bad she will have no choice but to move to Central Texas. I really hope you read my letter at your meeting since we are so far away and can not be there in person but you can bet our daughter will be. Singed, Very concerned angry parent.Flag
