We the citizens of Lubbock, family, friends and supporters thereof herein petition the City Council of Lubbock, Lubbock Citibus and the McDonald Transit Authority to stop the continued dismantling of the Lubbock Citibus and DRS transit systems. We formally protest the current plan to end both Saturday service and the elimination of roots. We formally disagree with and protest the senses numbers increasing the served population of the Citibus system to over 200,000 as these numbers may include areas not served by Citibus and thus not reasonably accountable in the population count as it relates to federal grant money. Due to the extreme hardship that decreasing the level of bus service would cause to many of our citizens, we specifically ask that: 1. All current roots be continued, 2. All Saturday and night services be maintained at their current levels, 3. Rather than allowing our transit system to be eliminated, The City Council of Lubbock find and provide adequate funding to maintain and expand the Citibus and DRS systems to meet the needs of our growing community. This petition is in written response and will be presented at the public hearing to be held on these issues by the transit advisory board on June 25th, 2003 and will continue to be built and presented to the Lubbock City Councel at the earliest possible opportunity.
